2012 AK sled build

I'm hoping the new bodywork will weigh less than 5 lbs including fasteners. That would be another 9 lbs off the front end which is huge.

The lower front by the steering post/a-arm mounts will have to be its own piece. I'm going to do the rest of it all as one piece to start with. If it won't flex enough to pull out around the clutches and oil tank to come off, then I'm probably going to split it down the middle over the steering post. The less pieces I have, the fewer fasteners I need. On the other hand, pulling a one piece cowling off every time I need to check oil, coolant, or my belt could get annoying so doing a separate hood and side panels is still a possibility.

I thought I had carbon fiber but looked around today and couldn't find it. Mike G was generous enough to give me a bunch of carbon Kevlar which is even better for this application. It's dark blue and should look awesome when done.

I was curious about the width of my body work compared to a Pro, so I had Mike G measure his Pro RMK plastics. The maximum width at the widest points on a Pro is approximately 39"-40". The side panels are symmetrical, so center to outside of clutch panel is 19.5"-20". My body work at the widest points is 32.75" (measured accurately). Center to outside of clutch is 17.5". It may look bulky in pictures, but in person it's very compact.

Can someone measure the width of their Nytro for comparison?

One more iPhone pic after the first round of sanding tonight. I'll do another round of Bondo tomorrow after work.

so your going to layer the CF over the bondo once done? That's going to look sweet!

After the bondo is finished I'll go over it with resin so I have a good surface to put release agent on. Then the CF will lay over that. I bought the epoxy for it yesterday. I usually use West Systems but the local shop switched to Epoxamite and they really like it so I'm going to give a try.

Heey, Nikolai.
How is it going?

Have you looked at the prototype Nytro that Yamaha first raced with?
It was pretty slim, and at least the upper half of the bodywork looks to be really lightweight. I know that you are far along in your progress.
I would just like your opinions on their design.

When you look at the last pic, there is a lot of room to place the forward running boards there, beneath the secondary clutch.

I can see a mix of several Yammie products in those photos - Looks like a Nytro seat and tunnel, Phazer clutch side plastic, YZ fuel tank and who knows what else!

I like the Phazer clutch panel. I should have tried one of those first, oh well.

We finally started getting snow again so I'm trying to finish up quick. I applied a bunch of bondo tonight and I think after I sand tomorrow I should only have minor touch up to do. Worked on taking out some of the corners and rounded edges off to help deflect sticks/branches and flow through the snow easier. Also provides for a little more airflow/cushion around the brake, oil tank, and clutches.

Spent a few more hours filing & polishing the brake reservoir and cap. Took quite a bit more material off each compared to what I had previously removed last year. Going to make a sleeker lever stop and lightweight lever pin for it in a few days. I'm curious to see what the stock one weighs because this one is light! I just need to find an aluminum banjo bolt now.

Looks sweet. If you still wondered center to clutch side is 18" and center to oil tank is 18.5". Thats with the apex motor in there as my plastic is beat up for sure! My CTC is 36.5 " also just for reference, my spindles stick a small bit past the plastic. Just looking at it from the front like yours it makes me wonder how it goes thru the snow, it looks like it is a giant snow plow and yours is tiny!! I do like the phazer clutch panel though. I would weight the brake but it looks heavy just staring at it!

I've been busy with other projects but I'm working on it all day today and tomorrow.

I did however start ordering some of the drivetrain parts for the 2015 sled. The BDX lightweight drive shaft and brake rotor are on the way and I'm working on ordering the Viper jackshaft & brake caliper.
