2012 AK sled build

If i remember right, older cat spindes are still about inch more forward than my nytro with 5" inch forwarded spindles. Polaris maybe has it about same but im not so sure about poos dimensions.

OEM's make stuff to fit everyone. Kinda a happy medium. Not much one way not to much the other. We stopped making trail kits, Mr. Sled had a good review of our trail kit for the Nytro. Its up here somewhere. We stopped because its not what or how we ride. Were off trail.
We found going forward made the sled more stable when on edge, and much easier to sidehill etc. Just plain works.
That being said. sorry Nikolai for derailing the thread. Looking forward to the new build.

Allan

Derail all you want, seriously! It's great information.

I ended up not having to buy any. A buddy had the front tunnel section and front frame member with the a-arm mounts he's letting me borrow to build the jig.

You know where I'm going don't you :) I'n thinking of the same thing for my dream carbon/4130 sled, viper front tubie with carbon tunnel. Trying to figure out the easiest way to make the front end. Wondering if I should buy a cheap AC with the same chassis? Viper would be too expensive yet, but I see cats around 3500-5000K range.

All you really need is the front bulkhead & front part of the tunnel since it has the suspension mounts. No need for the extension.

Out of curiosity I ordered fastener #14 from the WE air shock.

It's just a standard Grade 5 3/8 bolt. Easy to replace with Titanium.

Wow interesting. That is heavy. That front plate steel or aluminum? I bet you can save at least 20lbs replicating in 4130. The bolt in the shock, how much load does that see? Would a 7075 bolt work? How long can you get those WE shocks I think we need a 17" long shock. Lastly the tall spindles are heavy I am not seeing a lot of good options for them.

I'm not sure what kind of load is on that bolt. They are a little over 17" c to c iirc.

The tunnel has multiple spots where it's doubled up, it's not a light design, nor is it strong. My buddies shop had quite a few bent up tunnels.

Have you weighed a Sidewinder spindle?

No I haven't weighed it yet. I had in my head those 1lb polaris pro carbon ones as the benchmark. BDX claims a 4lb weight loss going to 5" shorter spindles which tells me they must be heavy stock, even the lightweight 2016 spindle.

Guys with the spindles and weight.
I have a friend into light weight Polaris RMKS sells them new as customs with super chargers etc. and he has fenestrated (drilled out) everything including the spindles even and especially the rotating parts ie clutches, discs, rifled shafts etc claims to not have had issues.

I am sure you have considered this and it is certainly not new just thinking out loud very interesting work and post.

Thinking about "geometry" is that all really controlled by the spindle? I know the yamicat has say reduced leverage on the arms being angled the way they are, but they are both sitting on ball joints so the castor of the arm is really not important? I guess what if I wanted to use viper arms but lower like the BDX kit then use a Polaris spindle? I really want to use those carbon spindles [emoji3]
