Just said he’s old, never said he was too old. Never too old for sleds. But some sleds are definitely out dated, some sleds need setting up properly, some have better shocks. And I personally think a cat chassis with a good shock package would be great for him and his wife.
Not offended by your advice or comments. I agree my dream sled would be a Viper with a King Air suspension. And Air Assault. Front shocks. With power steering. However I do not want to deal with drive shaft problems or valve adjustments at 3800 miles. And what’s with all the reflash? My Vectors drive ability is amazing. I am frustrated with their R&D. They screwed up the rear shock and knew it. But because I bought a Chevrolet (Vector) and not the Cadillac (Apex). I am Sol. That’s why I called out their attitude. When you buy the first new sleds in your life. And jump 16 years in technology. You would hope you get a better suspension. Than my 2001 Cat. I realize nobody’s perfect. But when you admit you have a problem it should not become class warfare. Sorry for ranting last night the 12 oz curls got the best of me. I do appreciate all the support. Guess I will whip out the plastic and stop whining. I have nothing against air shocks. But when there’s only one and it fails. Could make for a very bad day. As some on this site have stated. It happens. I bought these Sleds for their reliability!Because at my age and after wrenching for 44 years. I just want to turn the key and go. Except for oil changes and normal sled maintenance.

I have been wrenching for 45 years also, retired 20 years ago as a profession and moved to writing technician training for Ford dealership technicians. I am with you about not wanting to wrench on the sled mid-season, I had to replace the y-pipes on my 09 yesterday and it took 2 hrs total to do and keeps me from getting rusty, and really was not a bad job.Not offended by your advice or comments. Some times things pop up like that, but we have the ability to jump in and do this and get great advice on here when doing so. I will say this, going through the DB II chassis to fix the exhaust it is amazing what a piece of art these sleds are, just love the all Japan sleds!

I had no intention on steering you in the wrong direction. You can just fire up the vipers and go ride with basic maintenance. Could AC quality be a little better? Forsure. But I’ve been finding since I bought 2 16’s and an 18’ that the quality/updates gets a bit better each year. Like I say, we haven’t had any problems with our vipers other than a $50 primary bushing at 5000km, that was on my 16’ LTX DX. But we all know sh!t happens. I’m looking at upgrading to that all red viper GT. Very nice sled, great shock package and it’s loaded with features compared to previous year vipers. As for valve checks at 5000m, I didn’t think valve adjustments were needed until 30,000kms. But could be wrong. As for the flash, yes it’s been a PITA for some. We’ve got all the updated flash’s and the sleds always start. I think they’ve addressed this issue for 2020 though. If you haven’t considered a viper yet, if and when you do, have a look at this one.Not offended by your advice or comments. I agree my dream sled would be a Viper with a King Air suspension. When I bought my 18’ LTX DX it cost $16,400 out the door brand new. I didn’t get QS3 shock package, taller windshield, new geometry front suspension, new switch gear, tunnel bag, 4 rear wheels, rca plug-in, goggle bag, new ecu update, I’m sure I’m missing a few other things. The 2020 LTX GT I think is around CAD $16,500+taxes etc. So for an extra $1000 bucks or so you’re getting quite a bit more for your money. The shock package alone is worth more. To me, it’s worth it. It may not be to you. I’m just trying to help you out a little. Not sure what your looking to do, either upgrade your rear single shot or looking for a pair of new sleds, but if you do consider the viper series, look into the new LTX GT. Don’t bother with a winder, more power than anyone needs for trail riding. I wrenched for years on my older sleds, while I enjoyed it and learned a lot, especially with the help from this site, I don’t miss it. Now we just ride!

Hey, what have you got against power......
trust me, I want one really bad, the power is insane! I just find the only place you can really use it is on a lake.

I ride mostly trails west of you towards the lake which are mostly open farmland fields and a little bush. Plenty of 1-4 to 1/2 mile full throttle pulls await.trust me, I want one really bad, the power is insane! I just find the only place you can really use it is on a lake.

how are the trails over there anyways? We’re heading out in a half hour or so but riding out of Orangeville today, thinking more towards your way Friday. Weather starts to rise on Saturday.

Yes for Gods sake lets move on! This is a 2021 thread not a history thread about an old design. I for one have zero issues with my Proclimb/Procross chassis. I'm sorry but its light years ahead of where Yamaha left off. However its getting old(8yrs now) so I would like to see some changes to keep the progression going for the sport. There tooling for this chassis has been paid for 10x by now. Sadly I don't think Yamaha will ever have their own chassis again but it would be nice to see some of there own touches added to it.STOP.. I am running out of popcorn.. my god. Move on but thanks for the drama, it helps with traffic.
