Its more then 1/8".. I would guess 3.5mm would be about perfect(approx 9/64)You can only cut about an 1/8” off Before the shaft disappears into the secondary bushing
I took of 4mm, and im .5mm over.....but I have custom shims.

machinist.....Its a basic job for them.
Just take secondart apart, and be sure to mark the BACK side hub, and I measured mine and told him what to cut it down to.
I took off 4mm......which is abit past flush and then had custom shims made so I can do alot with my offset. I did not want to have the hub directly against circlip. And you need to be careful so full shift does not hit frame(bearing bracket)
So I would recommend 3.5 mm removed so you are not past flush.(at full shift)
Best thing would be to take it apart, take it to machinist, mock it up without spring with just helix and one nut tightened down in front of him so he understands the way it works, and then show him that you dont want it to go past flush when at full shift after being cut. Meaning the movable sheave only opens as far as FLUSH with the newly cut down hub.

It’s such an easy machining job it will literally take 10 minutes. Google machine shops in your area, go to a small one because the larger machine shops will roll their eyes at such a small job, they don’t generally like taking smaller jobs. So, who does one go to to get the machine work done?

I will check mine in the next couple of weeks. To see how far off I am. More of a preventative maintenance item so when things get turned up.
Thanks guys!

Are you talking about the two on heat exchanger right? And the two on the front mount bracket, you would have to remove material from all 4 points, egg shap them I guess, myself I would not,and its a major job to get all 4 points elongated out. Best of luck.On the engine you have 2 pieces of engine mounts mounted with 2 bolts each. If you remove the engine mounts from the engine you can remove some materials from the backside of the engine mounts.

Diff clutches so they would have their own sweet spot. Likely completely diff then ours as they may measure them diff then we do and obviously diff sheaves are diff thicknesses ect ect....Anyone check offset on the cat clutches ?

I think he is referring to the mounts themselves and where they bolt to the motor.
Maybe not? I have not had mine apart like you did Pete, you have seen this model stripped down huh?

Blew 2 more belts at.......................you guessed it......................900 miles
I own THE most consistent Sidewinder of all. I mean it's within 50 miles or so. Amazing.
I'm happy that i have so many 900 mile belts blown because that means i have over 6000 miles.
I've learned from SOUPY to just enjoy life & make lemonade out of lemons..........I should have opened a lemonade stand!

OK, DON"T shoot the messenger. I stopped by a Yamaha dealer on the way to the cottage Saturday to discuss pricing on the upcoming 2019 SRX. Talked with their service tech to discuss the issues he has seen on the Sidewinder series. He also indicated that the Yamaha rep that reviewed the upcoming 2019 models with him/dealership advised that there are revisions coming from Yamaha for clutching. Specifics were NOT given at that time so we will have to wait and see if info is available at the upcoming "sneak peek".
