Aftermarket clutch weight testing from this weekend

i don't no why you guys don't run the hurricane weights
My thinking was that I'm having secondary and primary spring binding issues, so I wanted those as part of the kit. Thought running a complete kit from one company would be easier to work with.

For that much hp you will need 7/16 or 1/2 brass in the tip. Call Lonn and he will get you what you need. They are not in the kit. The 7/16 weighs 7.2g and the 1/2 weighs 9.2g. I run the 7/16 on asphalt at 280ish. 17.5# boost TD flash.

Thanks Shagman. I must say, that's a little disappointing. I was under the understanding that if I provided all my info when ordering (riding weight, sled, modifications, and tunes I'd be running) that the weights would be set up to a good starting point for me....or at least include all the parts I needed. I guess not, looks like I was shipped weights set up for a stock winder then.

Do you know how much boost that tune is.

Reviving this thread again as there's a ton of useful info here. Would be great for guys to post their ecu tuning, clutching, and weight setups here to help everyone else with tuning their clutches.

I have a thunder products kit with heavy hitters, setup the way they were sent to me. I'll be running Hurricane's 270 and 280 race flashes with CAI, I'm 230 lbs fully dressed. Heavy hitters with 58 g base weight have 7/16" steel bolt and thick washer (5.6 grams) in tips, 3/8" steel bolt in mid hole (2.6 grams) and 3/4" slug in heel (3.3 grams). I'm wondering if I should add anything to this before I install the kit. Anyone have any experience with the kit and similar tuning and can provide input for me?

Ad a thick washer to the mid and try it. It should be close I don’t think it will be that far off

Thank you Dieselxtx. I spoke with Shagman on the phone today and discussed the setup, and he agreed that I would be close and could just add a second thick washer to the tip and see where the rpm's end up. Very happy to hear I will be close. I got concerned when it was mentioned I would need a bunch of different heavier bolts to try as I wanted to experiment hopefully this weekend. We just got 8 inches of snow today.

Have the same weights and running EVO's stage 4 tune. My weights are 3/4 allen in the heel, nothing in the middle and 7/16 with 2 large washers in the tip. Rpm's were 9,000

If you add 1 more thick washer to the tip, I believe you will be spot on with 3/8 in middle, 3/4 allen in heel and 7/16 with 2 thick washers in the tip.

I went from the evo tune to the hurricane 280 race. I have the heavy hitters in base 58 also. Yesterday I tried 3/4 and 1/4 slug in base, 7/16 steel with 2 thin in mid and same in tip and was over revving too 9200, so need to add tip weight. If that helps you. I'm shooting for 8900 rpms. I did get some of the thick headed brass bolts from Lonn.

Jafo - What were your rpms through the range? You might want to just put 2 thick washers added to the tip instead of the 2 thin washers. That will bring you down 300 rpms.

8,800 -8,950 -9200? (stabbing throttle down low to top speed)

It will hit 8900 and then go to 9200. I was going to throw a 7/16 big boy brass in tip at 7 grams. I think doing the two thick washers instead of 2 thin would yield the same also. I was going to move my helix to 6-1 also, it's at 3-3 with Lonn's orange secondary spring. I ran 6-1 last year and like it. I move it to 3-3 this year on Lonn's advice but lost a little snap. Not sure how much rpm it will raise going from 3-3 to 6-1 does?

for the guys running an extra 1/4" in heel as well as the 3/4" is that more so for short tracks or everybody?
Shagman told me not to bother with the extra 1/4 in the heel, that due to where the extra weight ends up it doesn't end up doing anything for you.

Thanks a lot guys, this is exactly the dialogue I was hoping for.
