Thats different than the usual bent tunnel. Is your tunnel also bent down (lower bumper)? That looks like a lot of weight bouncing on top. A lot of different racks would have prevented that.

no it is not bent down... just caved in. nothing out of the ordinary in my tunnel bag. My opinion, if yamaha is going to provide a cargo bag on the sled from factory, shouldnt it be able to handle some sort of load? Not filled with bricks obviously, but a few tools, spare belt, toiletry bag, etc shouldn't cave in the tunnel IMO.

I had the exact same issue as you did with my tunnel bending in the middle so I ended up making a 1/4 thick aluminum plate that fits over the rear tunnel section and overhangs a bit. It is large enough on my 137 to accommodate two link q bracket sets back to back and I can now use the medium link q bag on the far back, the stackable fuel can on the front and even stack a second bag on top of that. I powdercoated it black and even had room to install two octane boost cans directly behind the seat in the void where the small factory bag sat. It all works real well and was easy to fab

Why are these tunnels so weak? When we went on our saddlebag trip the last few seasons we had the stackable 4 gallon fuel caddy on the back of my wife's sled along with two linq bags and no problems. I talked to a guy with a turbo Cat that said he bent his tunnel with a 2 gallon caddy. He couldn't believe I had a 4 gallon on the back of my wife's sled and the tunnel didn't bend.
It must be in the design or is it the thickness of material?
Its the material. If they were made out of propper alloy like 6061 they would be rock solid. But as always this crap is cheaper and you dont need to bother about heat treatment. For longer sleds CR racing have a 6061 tunnel.
And buy the way... my bent tunnel was due to excessive bottomouts of the rear shock that bent the rear boggie mount axle along with deforming the tunnel. Someting to look out for, primary cause may not be the bags...

thats really interesting actually. i agree on welfare materials. no way it should cave in like that. I had some severe bottom outs too. just had all 4 shocks rebuilt and the front skid shock had water in it. all 6 bogie wheels are broken and have to be replaced.
