To many people with big miles and zero belt problems this is getting way out of hand! Guy just rode over 2 thousand miles zero belt problems, Ben running 150mph zero belt problems, OSP say secondary clutch is great zero problems, I have ran over 1000 miles and did countless top speed runs over 124 mph zero belt problems!
Same here, zero problems lol

This might sound crazy but check to make sure the coolant pressure cap is properly tightened. My buddies was loose and blowing belts. We tightened it and no more blown belts. Installing the hood could bump it loose so check after hood removal and reinstall. We think his wasn't tightened properly during first service.

I'm here to gauge when my belt needs to be replaced. If it's every 200 500 1000. No biggie. Rather just replace than to wait and clean up the shrapnel and/or replace a panel.....

I agree but but people read on here and think there is a problem. 3 people don't make a problem when there are hundreds of us with zero problems.

Since the power of this sled is greater than most, and when launching hard or accelerating across a lake at high speed or landing from a jump,
the sudden stop of the track from landing with the throttle on or breaking traction than regaining it again can put tremendous loads on the belt and the chain case chain. which in turn cause either or too fail. As per 2012AC11t, maybe the solution to all this is a slipper gear like the sno cross guys use on there sleds. Just food for thought.

I always wondered why they didn't do the slipper gear. It's not even noticeable when riding. They have it in some of the UTV's also.Since the power of this sled is greater than most, and when launching hard or accelerating across a lake at high speed or landing from a jump,

Most race and now street motorcycles use slipper clutches to prevent wheel hop or lock up of the rear wheel when downshifting same principle in theory just applied to different parts of the machine.would be curious if this helped alleviate some of the pressures , i know they do in the sno cross circuit otherwise there sleds wouldn't last 2 laps. Its a wonder this tech hasn't trickled down to the consumer.

6 speed trans and a hand clutch would be the real solution!

I like it just way it is, easier to ride with 1 arm.
plus the corners get less rutted out this way, imagine if we had hand clutch's what the turns and exit's would be like.

Don't need hand clutch anymore, could have 6(or 7or 8) speed dual clutch with full auto or manual shift, sport or standard modes, a lot of technology out there that hasn't made it's way to sleds yet.

I reported my situation to Yamaha as MrSled says i should. I see a lot of great ideas here, but i don't have a box of parts or extra clutches to play with. Nor do i have the place or time to "play". No ice in CT & when i drive 6 hours to Maine i RIDE, not "test". I shouldn't have to for a $16,000 sled that was "tested" for 6 years. I did my bitchin' and now looking for answers. OSP said shims will work. I will try shims & order 2 belts to carry on my 10 day ride. Most vendors say weights will put more grip on belt, but i'm not buying that yet. Maybe WHOLE clutch kit will work. I'm looking for a guy who blew belts then went to clutch kit & had success. Anybody????? I don't mind changing belt 1/2 way thru season, but not cleaning up rubber shrapnel...

X2 so far I been lucky with no issues at 1200 miles . And I agree with what u say . The prices of these sleds now, we should not have these issues. The new 850 skidoo r even worse . Motor blown up , clutchs cracking . 17,000 poor manufacturing. But they say they have been tested . Pure bull #*$&@I reported my situation to Yamaha as MrSled says i should.
