Blown Belt

With all these blown belts has anyone experienced any damage to thier plastics as a result of the blown belt - there is no belt guard below the clutches and at 95mph I'm worried a blown belt might do some damage??

Yes. Broken plastics. I think pics are back in this post.

Yes, I have a 22 hyvo top gear in from Scott Taylor. 815-979-3428. I used the stock chain and stock 41 tooth bottom gear. Its a little tight but not too bad. Chain adjuster has to be backed off most of the way. Scott taylors top gears have oiling holes inbetween the teeth for lubing that bushing that usually wears out around 3000 or so miles. I run full synthetic tranny lube also filled to half way on site screen. Any more and it can weep out of vent tube. With this combo it should put you in the 134mph range.
Thanks brother, thats fast enough for me,and should give better gas milage for those who worrie about that to. I will call scott in the near future, need to worie about fixingit up enough so I can just ride it,but sense cases are wide open, well now seems like the best time to do a gear change lol.. again thanks pete

I had the 1st one blow at 8 miles on it....took the foam out on the lower side panel. Since I machined my secondary, over 600 miles on an 8JP belt with very little belt dust....Oh, and I am running an aftermarket clutch kit also.

There has been damage to some lower plastic....but don't remember whose it was.
OK now you said the magic word, machine clutch, was it the secondaries spring pocket? If so how deep and dia. did you go,same on both pieces?

That is probably a better choice. I'm heading on a trip Friday morning and I may run without shimming first to see were I'm at. We will be doing a lot of lake running so it will be a good test. I haven't even had a chance to ride it with studs as the first 145 miles were without.
WE always used just a flat washer, and some times have to grind down the sides a tad,but I would rather do that than a spring washer and not be able to start the nuts on. JMO

Many things I have found with the secondary that are being tested right now with great results.

Add a clutch alignment spec. and everyone will be much happier with their SW's.

These same issues plagued the Viper and now the SW
Alignment thing still chaps me. I always did this after pulling primary off my sleds. For some reason I missed that on this one. Got the tool hanging on the wall staring at me.:o|

Still haven't had a chance to test, but this issue has been on my mind and wanted to share some thoughts.....

Years ago had Bender Turbo on rx1, 255hp, best I saw was 167mph on speedo. I know....that was probably only 120 gps, but here's my point....never blew belt on that rig.

I wonder if someone had a button secondary off viper if testing would show less heat vs winder roller? Does anybody own both and able to test?
Yes,some one on here already did that, with great results, cant remember where I saw it though.

Both alignment and center to center tools I have don't fit this chassie, the alignment bar is way to long, and the C to C bar just plain don't fit, jackshaft seems much beefier than apex jacks ever did.

As was mentioned.... .070" machined out of the spring pocket on the fixed sheave where your secondary spring sits in by the 3 spring tab holes. Only have to machine the fixed sheave spring pocket.

But also machined were the hub on the helix and machined the fixed sheave to allow the sheaves to come together for the 8DN belt I will be testing soon.

HOW MUCH MEAT IS BEING REMOVED INSIDE THE SPRING POCKET AND WHERE EXACTLY??

Wondering if I will end up having a problem too. The small black ring close to center low in the primary in this picture is why I wondering. I am far from mechanically inclined, but I don't think my other sleds have this wear there. I haven't checked the deflection when running, but it seems sitting low in the secondary too. Maybe at least 1/16 below the top of the sheaves at rest. Thoughts? View attachment 124925
From what I can see,you have not even opened it up yet, why? You bought one of the fastest production sleds ever built, dont you want to go fast, and if you say I am breaking it in by the book, than go reread the books statement,no long term full throttle runs,it don't say you cant open it up,from day one,it just states to not hold it there for heat issues in the motor department,so go out and run it hard for 6-8 second blasts or until it shifts fully, and I bet that's not going to take more than 5 seconds on hard pack. What we see is just out of nuetrul is where you are most of its time so far.Am I wrong?

Plus, I checked my clutch offset. Per specs in manual, tolerance is 58.1-61.1mm and I'm at 60.47, so well within spec.
Is that with the single shim it came with?

I don't have a tool. Do you lay straight edge on outside secondary sheave edge and measure to back of primary fixed for the measurement. Subtract thinkness of straight edge then. This is how we did cats. thanks
