Ran my original 8JP out to the VERY end of stock gearing this weekend a couple times...then kept trail riding all weekend. About 600 miles on it so far and still looks good with little dust. But I do clean off clutches after every couple rides..so hard to say how much total accumulated. I'll likely switch belts before next ride and break in another 8JP.

Just came back from Munising TY ride and beat the snot out of my sled until I blew a belt.
Friday night - -3 f° Trail groomed 1st mile then some stutter bumps with loose snow. 8JP that was put on after I blew the belt testing with 8 miles on it....so sled had 648 miles on. Ran some 110+ runs, but being nighttime I was not sure about deer. Stopped for late supper and then headed back.
Saturday morning - 11 F°, Groomed and setup trail. 128, 125 and 127 speed GPS, 3 back to back runs. A Modded turbo Suzuki CAT was there and watching. Wanted to see if I would run him. Modded by a well known performance shop.....he didn't stand a chance the way I was hooking up. SW 2, Cat 0!
Knew the clutching was good so I went to the trailer, put the new Thunder Products rollers in because the stock ones had a bunch of flat spots.
Saturday - on and off trail, catwalking like crazy, deep snow thru the trees and non-plowed service roads...then a straight-away that I always use for testing/racing. Ran back to back 120+ runs up and down, turned around, saw an opportunity to stand the thing up in front of some sleds that were sitting just off the trail and WHAM!!! The 8JP with 736 miles blew apart so bad there wasn't a piece larger than 1/2 inch and some string. This was not a Yamaha problem, this was determined by me that I was going to run the snot out of this belt till it blew, and I did.
Where do we go from here? I am machined for coil-bind and beat the ever living snot out of my winder this weekend. Did more cat-walks than can be imagined and just was not nice to that belt. When the belt blew....it was just crazy hot in temperature....but the clutches were warm to the point where I could hold my hands on them for any length of time.

Can't believe what is going on with your sled and the CF belts.
My son blew out a CF belt Saturday with only 160 miles on it and a few asphalt runs. This is on my turbo Viper....not to be compared to the SW blowing belts. But maybe there is something to the CF belt? I am turning mine into warranty because a piece of the center came out like it wasn't glued properly.
Sucks dude

Great info Nos-Pro. When you get a chance, can you let us know the condition of the Thunder Products rollers after the thrashing you gave that poor Sidewinder last week-end. Nothing beats real world testing, by guys that know there stuff. Hope Yamaha is listening. These are real testers, not bench testers.

Hey bud!
Yes, the new Thunder Products rollers worked awesome in both Shagman's sled and my sled. Called Lonn yesterday with the good news and he already has machine shop informed to go ahead with production.
A pic for everyone's pleasure

I would be careful tightening the stock spring past that I was running 6/1 and was fine but it is binding on top end it wont GPS past 121 on GPS the speedo keeps climbing but speed stops seen 127-128 but gps said 121 and 124 on speedo said 120 so its out 4 mph consistently my viper is dead on with GPS
Now that I have the cat rollers on it actually works like it should and upshifts to fast with asll the extra power, this will require a different and stiffer spring as I have snapped belt in half on a low speed rollon. I guess its work in progress. Also the sled needs more gear for better mid and top end pull.

I broke engine in by the book and had over 300 miles before any prolonged wot.
I was WOT in 10 minutes. 500 mile on stock 8JP. No dust, belt looks great.

Well its running damn good now with the stock belt. 210 miles on it and clutches are very clean.. Something is not right with that carbon belt on my sled for sure.. RPM's jumped up(with stocker), but I can adjust for that! I truly think its to soft? Not sure if that possible BUT that's my opinion.@jonlafon1

UPDATE.. Ran 170 miles on Saturday with stocker 8jp.. Had 2-3 hard pulls with it and also a good 1-2 mile run on the grade @80-90 mph.. No blown belt.. Clutches are VERY clean!.Popped another gates 8dn Gates carbon today. 100 miles new belt. DONE with that belt. Going 8jp as it's the Only difference with other guys that have almost identical set up as myself. Something is not right with that belt. I never went over half throttle first 35 miles on the belt today. As I wanted to break it in right. Blew it at 60 mph. Not a clean break today.

Could be too much power, too soft and blowing them apart.

Gentlemen,
My apologies in reference to a post I made last night that was false and untrue. I commented that I had no evidence of secondary spring coil bind and I would like to set the record straight. Two weeks ago, I went riding and hit low 120's several times. Upon arriving home, I took clutches apart and found no evidence of spring coil bind. Apparently, I wasn't going fast enough..........Last weekend I went riding and hit 125-126 half a dozen times and had no belt issues, therefore ASSUMED I had no coil bind based on my findings the week before.
Well today, I finally had a chance to disassemble clutches and inspect.......to my dismay.....blatant evidence of coil bind!!! I feel like a turd !!!
Part of resolving these issues is putting our heads together and reporting facts based on testing, to which I have failed. My sincerest apologies for dropping the ball. MODERATORS, PLEASE DELETE THAT POST SO NOBODY GETS STEERED IN TEH WRONG DIRECTION!!!!!
Moving forward, I have since shimmed helix 90 thousands, wound the tension to 70 degrees, and will retest. Nos Pro.......sorry I doubted the facts you stated and I still look forward to hearing any results from the viper secondary.
