I figured. So, if you don't want to remove the shaft, peening or loc-tite are your options?
Peening dosent do do squat. Dan Peened his and when he took his apart, you could see they were gone.

You could possibly do this if you removed the lower side panel?

I didn’t think it would be better than a set screw. Plus I want to be able to remove it easily. Why not just dimple the shaft ?

Maybe, it would be hard to get the hole straight. you would probably need a 90 degree drill, a bit extension and some tap sockets. You could possibly do this if you removed the lower side panel?
Or take the shaft out and inspect your chain case at the same time.......

I’m following these SW threads close because I will be jumping to a SW very soon.
Just a ?.
So knowing that there is play between the shaft and bearing and by locking the bearing to the shaft with set screws obviously means the shaft won’t spin 100% true. Will that be ok on the chain case side ?

Bingo! This is what I feared. More so in and out also. Chassis definitely moves in that area at least from what I have seen with bolts and rivets wearing in and loosening along with clips shearing the splines off on some. Maybe not a big deal though since one set screw won’t effect that maybe. Experimental for sure but no doubt factory can’t get it right. What can you do?I’m following these SW threads close because I will be jumping to a SW very soon.

Or you can just keep up on the issue. Peen every year and keep that bearing clean and lubed. It has worked for me.

I used locktight bearing retaining compound, not sure if it will hold up tho. It has worked well for me in the past.

Add it to the end of season maintenance, $50 bearing, $5 brake clean, $50 top gear, $20 in chain lube. That's taxes included. Done.

But ya I'm with Fabio and Cannondale on this one. Not so sure on the set screw thing there is flex down there for sure.

There may be some flex there. I have pull my tunnel IN with a strap when putting the snap ring on the disc. It lasted 3400 miles, and looked great, so it cant be that bad. I doubt it makes much difference. Put one screw on each side to even it out if you want.
