Busted chaincase!!

hopefully Yamaha is paying attention to these expensive warranty claims,
it's a whole lot cheaper to spend $12 for a quality bearing as opposed to hundreds to put everything back together

Here are the bearing that went into my chain case.
This is the upper Wobble Bearing replacement:

Here is the lower bearing replacement:

My sled had just over 4000 miles what should I be listening for? I have changed my chain case fluids 3 times.... will they cover these bearings? I have 3 years of warranty on mine...all this is making me nervous to run my sled now with all this failure....

Most of the failure I have seen and heard are from Turbos... but there are a few others as well. I would just drive it... Warranty has been great on this problem.

How hard is it to change this bearing? What has to be removed?
I will ask. Farthest in I went is the top gear. The biggest worry I had was removing and installing the cover/tank. It is very fragile. I do know there is a socket with tangs on it for the top bearing nut. I do not know if the jackshaft has to be removed to get bearing out but I would think so.

I've had my chaincase apart probably 6 times now and don't know how that bearing is held in there....but will look closer at it when I switch it over to race asphalt.

Dont forget about that top gear also. 3000mi max and get it out of there. Warranty covers it.

Cannondale has my top gear for comparison....my bearing/bushing shows a lot of wear.

Ha hows this for comparison? Cant wait to put the sucker on left in my sled! Gear on left is from Evolution Powersports. Slightly different bearing it seems. Nicely chamfered on ends. Chain fits either gear nicely. Well done Evo!

Anyway when the coating you see on left one is gone like NosPros on right the gear bearing is worn and needs replacement. Its critical the gear doesnt wobble too much on shaft since it meshes with other gear. If its gets nicked from not meshing right it is when trouble starts.

It a PITA!

I've had to change out my chain case twice now (due to me hitting rocks) both time I've had to buy them through Cat because they were either unavailable or on back order through Yamaha. To change out the top bearing you need to remove the retaining clip that holds in the bearing and then press it out from the back side. To do this you need to remove the chain case which involves removing the Jack shaft and the drive shaft.

Now with that being said each time I changed out the Chain case I ended up changing out the Cat bearing and putting the original bearing back in due to the Cat bearing having a cheep looking plastic cage and the Yamaha bearing having a metal cage

This is the Cat bearing
