Cat DNA Strikes again! -CHAINCASE TENSIONER ROLLER WHEEL FAIL

The tensioner spring can really only go in one way. I could not recall and tried it and it wont really work any other way. Just be sure the roller wheel is pushing against chain, and it pretty much can only go one way, as the one arm of spring is too short to touch the other way.

Forgot to that picture,,, anyone else have the end of the drive axle wearing against the case at the speedo end?cant find anything wrong
Maybe better check your snap ring on brake side, if that snap ring comes off, could be possible the axle moved toward right....who knows with these sleds. lol

I can’t seem to remember how to put the adjuster spring back in?

Anyone with original copper bushing in top gear might want to look at it , if u don’t have oil holes 5C415BA8-641E-4889-9222-C7889715A92F.jpeg 5F5F0568-8035-4569-8628-54ADEC46B909.jpeg 90588312-C46F-4C9A-8E59-ADE8780F6C5C.jpeg 3F14DE4A-D7BB-4930-A4D7-FC955CAFBC1A.jpeg . This is the crap that came out my sled with 1000miles

I had just suctioned out my chain case oil and refilled when I read this post regarding the chain tensioner grenading. Thankfully I read this and it only cost me some extra chaincase oil to remove the case cover. My sled has 650kms on it, and when I pulled out the tensioner one screw was tight and the other side was not.... NO SIGN of any loctite anywhere on the two bolts. For now I’m going to just red loctite the screws in place, after I cleaned everything with some brake cleaner. Next time I dissassemble I will get it welded up. If you have not checked these screws I highly recommend you do!!!

I asked my local dealer if they red loctite these bolts during the first service. The answer was no, they just suction up the oil and play on. Someone mentioned that Arctic Cat may be applying red loctite at the dealers during first service, Yamaha dealers don’t seem to be.

Question above about the spring, Dan is right it can only go in one way. I used some needle nose vice grips to grab the end and bend the short half into place. Bit of messing around but it will go with some convincing.

Pull the pin out the reverse gears go on and the tensioner and spring go on easy. It’s not pressed on and it pulls right out. You have room with pin out to have tensioner vertical enough to push spring tab in groove and pull around tensioner by hand. 2 sec job

This is a Yamaha thing too. From 2012 to 2016 on cat turbos, there was a self tightening puck in chaincase. I don’t think there where many issues with it and no thought had to be put into chain tension. It did it for you.

Red loctite the roller bolts

And when you have gears with oiling holes check that the holes not plugged. I’ve done a couple recently that were
