Cat DNA Strikes again! -CHAINCASE TENSIONER ROLLER WHEEL FAIL

I had just suctioned out my chain case oil and refilled when I read this post regarding the chain tensioner grenading. Thankfully I read this and it only cost me some extra chaincase oil to remove the case cover. My sled has 650kms on it, and when I pulled out the tensioner one screw was tight and the other side was not.... NO SIGN of any loctite anywhere on the two bolts. For now I’m going to just red loctite the screws in place, after I cleaned everything with some brake cleaner. Next time I dissassemble I will get it welded up. If you have not checked these screws I highly recommend you do!!!

I asked my local dealer if they red loctite these bolts during the first service. The answer was no, they just suction up the oil and play on. Someone mentioned that Arctic Cat may be applying red loctite at the dealers during first service, Yamaha dealers don’t seem to be.

Question above about the spring, Dan is right it can only go in one way. I used some needle nose vice grips to grab the end and bend the short half into place. Bit of messing around but it will go with some convincing.

Man if I had that all apart, no way in hell id loctite it and put back together....JMO.

Tack weld took 30 seconds and the peace of mind is priceless.

Its just way way too much work, not too mention ruining a trip ect, to rely on loctite.

What a brilliant design! When everything is reassembled how much space is there between the inner screw head and the inner case?

If the 22 41 chain tension was just a little tighter, u could eliminate the tensioner ... problem would be solved :)

I only have 250 miles on my winder sort of disheartening to see they went away from the bullet proof apex chain case. Although that said on my 300hp apex it would stretch chains every 1500 miles to the point where they wouldn't bend it would stay straight out like an erection LOL. So I had to service that chaincase every year as well. I also used 75w90 gear oil which seemed to really help wear. Thanks for all the pictures, hopefully I am not required to go back and use them on my own sled :)

Speaking of that is the service manual posted around here like the Apex one? I like having all the TQ specs. Thanks!

What's the deal with VIP? A yearly fee?

Not much, as my inner screw did not fall out as it was held by case as shown in pics....

So, when I tack welded my screws, I ground the weld down a tad as it did touch case when reinstalling things. So keep the tack small, and if its touching hit it with grinder abit to be safe.

Thanks mods for the service manual! Glad your back on the trail Rockerdan!! I will weld my roller bushing this off season. Already found the fuse box wires rubbing on metal bracket underneath just from poking around some threads in here. Good info, just wish I had a complete list of stuff to check! Maybe I'll work on that.
