Forgot just what a blast these Winders are!

Trails look awesome Dan I'm glad you're finally getting a good Winter. The last few have been pretty depressing.

@ROCKERDAN what's the deal with your transfer mod? Have you posted what you've done anywhere? I'm not sure what I'm.missing on my 129" and I'm 85% sure I want to dump it for a MXZ XRS but if there's something that will make it a bit more playful I would love to try it.

Nice summary Dan. Glad you had a great trip.
I've done the RAP twice, the first time almost 20 years ago, and did it in 2 days(not sure how).
I'm also a fan of the ACE bars, like the rectangle shape to bite and hold.

Glad to hear you had a flawless trip!!!! The trails out that way do look pristine!
I think we will be riding into April like in 2014/15
I am back on vacation starting next friday and plan on putting on some miles!
I will be tacking the tensioner roller screw for sure this week and adding the hurricane trail muffler and tunes (currently running sm tunes)

Trip and sled was great, only problem I had was the 8DN belt finally went last day 20 miles left . It had 1000 plus miles on it , but had multiple days running heavy snow & wide open trails of plus 90 mph ,so not to disappointed & rollers held up so far .

Yeah I hear ya....

Just comes down to the fact.....Do we want to be constantly working on these and worrying, or do we want to just ride and do trips ect ect....gotta decide what you're really want from sledding. Many here are total 100% performance and not so concerned with taking trips and hi miles. Which is really what the Winder is all about. Maybe for just trail riding big miles, other sleds are a better choice?

Dan

My feelings exactly Dan.

Yeah I hear ya....

Honestly, 3 or 4 days away from this site also helped alot! I love this site and am hear often, so all the bad posts can really get into your psychie! Before I left on the trip, I was just worried about everything. But once I got out riding, these sleds are incredible. And my sled in particular has all the poor engineering issues fixed by me. So I think they can become very reliable.

Dan it wouldn’t mater what I bought it’s in my blood I will tear it apart lol.

Have to say that I'm finally LOVING mine! It was a long way to get it to where it is now it seems, at times it felt almost hopeless. I finally feel comfortable to where I can ride it alone confidently. I really like the ride, handling and performance as a package now. I've got over 1600 miles on a set of stock 14.5mm rollers so far this season which is a record for me. Have not blown another belt, I have however corded a couple 8DN's before figuring out I need REALLY heavy secondary springs and less helix to prevent belt slippage. The corded belts I'm still running however and are showing no ill effects other than just a piece of cord an inch long or so out of a section. Who could have imagined I could run a less than perfect belt on a tuned winder?

I've jumped on a friends 900t last week and can happily say I have no desire to purchase one whatsoever now. If I was going to get something new I believe It'd have to be a SRX, however I do not want the electric adjustable shocks or the 1" track. So looks like I own the machine I really want anyway. I like it on slow trails, fast trails, rough trails and smooth trails, of course I much prefer smooth trails.

I keep improving this Winder every week and have a few more items in store and tricks up my sleeve to make it even better. Right now I'm really quite happy with it. Something that to this point was impossible to say. To say its been a love/hate thing thus far would be an understatement. Thanks to this forum, its easy to see all the common problems and address them before trouble arises for most. For some it's been trial and error though, but someone has to be the guinea pig I guess, so I thank the guys have been the first to have a issue and find a fix to the problem.

I have to agree i love mine (at the moment lol) and have been done tuning for over a month now just logging the miles of smiles. Suspension is amazing now and #*$&@ hardly leaves the seat whereas the 850 bretherin are bouncing all over the place partly due to the dildo for a seat their sleds have.

;)!;)!;)!;)!Good deal Mike. I actually like the 1 inch over 1.25 believe it or not! I was surprised myself but it hooks with the big studs really well. There have been some documented issues with the electronic shock package but I’ve had none personally. I find I actually use it too. I wonder if some issue is dealer prep with rubs or something going? I set mine up myself so who knows.
Thanks for all your info;)!

This sled is BY FAR the most fun sled i have ever been on and what's even better is when you stop for lunch and everybody is bitching about the beat up trails you just say....."what bumps?"
I have a 2017 SW LTX LE !
I am no longer as excited about owning this sled as I used to be !
First year there were hardly any around , and I felt very special , and extremely happy I decided to buy in , as opposed to all those who waited a year or 2 to buy in .
Second season there were more SW's around , and I felt I was the only stock SW in Ontario.
Did I mention , I had no problems , just big smiles , even with next to 0 transfer on the 137.
Year 3 is a disaster !!!
There are SIDEWINDERS EVERYWHERE !!!!
Its like having a Phazer back in the 80's !
And then , the TSN turning point of my relationship with my SW , was when 2 kids on yellow 850's , gave me the lets go nod on a lake , and its been down hill even faster from then on .
I laid such a beating on those 2 , that I caught the bug , or should I say virus !
I decided to get a little more juice , to see how that feels .
So now with a 240 stock muffler tune , with a transfer bar relocation , I am beset with two very serious issues .
Firstly my smile has widened even more , and may now require surgery to remove it .
Secondly , my 65 year old arms and hands , are in constant pain from holding on !
I hear the 270 tune is even harder on your arms , I'll let you know .
In order to be ready for the new 2020 version , I have sold my house , and tried to put the spring order down payment on the new sled .
Yamaha has said I can't do that until they introduce it.
I am considering hiring a lawyer to fight that decision .
I may only have 10 or 20 years left of sledding left in me , so I want to go out in style !
TBC !
