Yet not a one other than a starter on a 7000 last year at my dealer. It was the magnets in that one. Cat or Yamaha. I wouldnt let it stop me from riding worrying about it. The Nytros and vectors have had this come up once in awhile also. Maybe its just that there are so many more Vipers out there now? Then you hear of DC5's situation and I dont even want to think about that. Nothing we all can do here short of a whole motor redesign to put something like this in it. Amazing that a little company from PA could have thought about this 15 years ago! Cannondale starter clutch. If it slips you know it. Makes a distinct whirring sound and it probably saved parts for me twice. Was actually made by a place called Hanover Gear Company. I wonder if the idler gear could be made with one? Is there room?

Mine went on a late build XTX LE.Have there been any starters go on the 2015 after manufacture date that didn't require the re flash?
Lost mine at 800kms and have 2000 on since with no issues....knock wood!!!
Was at a cat dealer a few days ago that was at the release and they told him that 7000 owners should not let the fuel pump cut out before trying to start it.They said just turn the key and start it right away!!!
My Yamaha told me to turn the key and hold it until it completely starts. The kick back when let off on the key after an attempt to start was the problems.
Who knows???

Mine went on friday hit the key and it kicked back and stripped out the gears by the sounds of it , goes to the dealer today . Yamaha asked for my sled to be brought in because the rep wanted to know what mapping i had after it backfired a month ago and blew up the muffler . I have put 180 miles on my sled since jan 12th very disapointed in this sled . I have 650 km now

I've had the re flash and always started all my sleds old school cycle method and had my starter go on my viper. I been told they are working on another re flash and also read 1 re flash per ecu I don't know what's true and what isn't anymore . One thing I do know is why a lot of us ride Yamaha and that's worry free riding . I really hope they get this figured out before next season !!

Any computer that is "flashable" that I know of can be flashed as many times as you like unless you have a failed flash that "bricks" your system. Your dealer may not be able to reflash but the maker can most likely.

Yes you can only do 1 reflash per ECU (if it worked correctly the fist time) if it loaded properly the computer will say "software up to date". If they come out with another update it will load.
Same as the computer you are using here, it will not load an update you have already done.

Wondering if it only a small percentage of viper owners are having starter problems compared to units out there? It sounds like the problem is definitely real.My dealer in Osseo MN says just hold key until fully started, getting a little nervous on long trips!Yes you can only do 1 reflash per ECU (if it worked correctly the fist time) if it loaded properly the computer will say "software up to date". There is a new thread on that other site about a Nytro guy with starter failure, not just the Viper is doing this. Consensus over there is the starter relay hanging up is the culprit, but who knows at this point?
I agree magnets or burned up starter is caused by starter relay(solenoid) sticking. But not the gear breaking or starter breaking the case. There is a new thread on that other site about a Nytro guy with starter failure, not just the Viper is doing this. In the Cat forums they are talking about 7000 Cats with starter failures. It is being blamed on the ECU. Yami built a ton of Ventures, vectors and Nytros hardly a peep about stater failure or backfires in over ten years of sleds with that motor. This is a new issue!
All Yami sleds can have a stuck starter and is why the starter saver was designed. Simple light that alerts you to a starter stuck on! Not related to this issue!

Yes I agree two different issues.
