Seems like this new flash they created now is affecting hot starts.
They go to one extreme to the other.
Can’t believe they can’t find a balance with there tuning. After 5yrs it’s its not funny anymore, ITS SAD!!!!

The general consensus at least in Quebec where I was on my trip this past New Years was leave them home, they don’t start for #*$&@.
It was never funny.

It was never funny.
Figure of speech!!!!
I sure wasn’t laughing with my 0-8k starting issues.
Btw.... great people at Roger’s.
Honestly people really need to know what is really going on with these vipers before they spend there money.
Real world experiences need to be talked about and not driven by BRAND LOYALTY.
Roast Yamaha corporate
Not the owners that post what is actually going on during there winter trips.

I guess I’ll wait a bit to get mine done. Though if it only requires a blip of the throttle while cranking when hot I’d be fine with that as that’s how my Phazer has always started when heat soaked.

We need more miles and more tests. Nothing seems to be consistent between sled to sled although that also seems to be the biggest issue is the inconsistency between sleds with this issue since day one. Last week guys were happy with the new flash. So I pulled the tigger and decided to get it done on the weekend. Now this week we have a few that aren’t happy with it and having problems with hot starts. How can you fix a problem that is so inconsistent between sleds?

I am done. Will do this latest today and then tell everyone I know about it and the buddies I ride with. They need to rewire and provide new ecu to every Viper owner who demands it. Yamaha quit messing around and fix this right!

I have been reading around and looking into old posts and old flashes. And the only consistency I have found regarding flash’s with the viper is the EVO flashes. I haven’t found anyone that wasn’t happy with there EVO flash. Why is this? And if there is someone that is unhappy or didn’t notice any differences please chime in and give your opinion. In my own opinion EVO has something figured out that Yamaha and cat doesn’t. I know it’s been said that the flash isn’t the whole issue with these sleds. And I would agree but why the consistent success with the EVO flash? I read somewhere that EVO opens up the ECU so when they do this and whatever they do when it’s open is that fixing the inconsistencies or is it just a coincidence. The more I read if this flash doesn’t work out with Yamaha then this summer I will just do the EVO flash and be done with it.

Flashed my 15 Viper last week and the only thing I've noticed so far is that it rolls a little longer before it fires. I haven't had it out yet due to a lack of snow but will be making a trip North in the next couple weeks to test it.

The early reports coming in are a little discouraging but I think it's still to early to call it a failure. It may take a full season to properly evaluate this flash update so I'm staying positive until I have enough seat time to judge it.

A little off topic here but I recently purchased a 2019 Yamaha Wolverine x2 with the new twin 847cc engine and it never starts first attempt when cold. It takes at least 2-3 attempts which is discouraging because my old carb'd Grizzlies started better than that. Makes me wonder what's going on with these FI systems.

The issue is that every factory reflash must pass emissions testing, EVO can tweak what every they want without worry. It’s almost looking like the ECU doesn’t take coolant temperature into account and it’s either too Rich at startup which aids cold starts but hinders hot starts OR too lean which which hurts cold start but allows quick restarts warm.

My evo flash always smelled rich upon startup.

The EVO flash is a myth. Was just a guy the other day that had a kickback and starter failure with it. Not enough sleds using it to come to any conclusion by far and above all its Yamahas problem.

It’s a voltage issue to ecu. Yamaha knows this. That is why Back in day of carbs Yamaha had the best hand warmers in existence and then with fi did everything possible to get clean maximum voltage to the ecu even resorting to limiting handwarmer voltage to do it. These cats the starter gets first priority. It doesn’t work unless everything else is perfect. That’s the variability.

I've only perused the EPA regs regarding emissions testing on sleds, buti don't see anything about start up emissions.

Yamaha didn't seem to have these issues with the nytro.

I may be wrong but I don't believe there have been enough EVO flashes done on stock Vipers to do a fair evaluation. I do agree that emission standards limit manufactures were aftermarket has more freedoms but there's more to this problem than just EPA regulations. With all the inconsistencies reported with the stock Viper there's a possibility that with a substantial increase in EVO flashes we could see similar problems. I'm also not willing to pay the high price of the EVO flash in an attempt to correct a known issue with these Arctic Cat electronics.

Don't disagree with your comments but there is also a added performance element with EVO flash taking rev limit up to 9800 ilo 9200 stock and making more HP. I've only had one issue with the new reflash and it was in warmer than average riding conditions. Isolated instance at this point and beyond that, I've been happy with it. I will monitor it the rest of this season.
