I have a little over 200 miles on my OSP adjuster now. I set it so the track crept slowly on the stand, and when I got on the trail, the sled really seemed to jump when I hit the throttle. After a few miles, I noticed a squeal, from the primary I think, so I tightened the adjuster about 1/4-1/2 turn, and the squeal disappeared. It seems to run really well now, but I noticed that I lost about 10 mph over last year's top end. It might have been the conditions, but I was wondering if by my adjustment, I have sacrified top end speed for low end performance? Would tightening the adjuster a little more give me more top end? I apologize for the stupid questions, but I really know absolutely nothing about clutching!!!!

Is the secondary pressed on or does it just slide right off once the center bolt comes out?

Deflection and that tension on OSP adjuster have nothing at all to do with top end. The way you adjusted is absolutely perfect. Nice job!I have a little over 200 miles on my OSP adjuster now. Thanks for the encouragement! Not having any experience with clutching, I was nervous about the set up, and second-guessing myself. The conditions on Saturday were definitely not the fastest, so hopefully I will see the top speed back in the mid-ninties when the trails are flat and hard.Deflection and that tension on OSP adjuster have nothing at all to do with top end. Just installed an OSP adjuster on my wife`s 15 XTX with a 8JP belt and on the stand the belt will not ride to the top.. even running the sled at a decent speed it never rides back to the top. I`m going to try to take it for a little ride and see what happens.

That's normal, You need to work the belt up to the top by hand to set your deflection. While running on a stand there's no torque feedback to pull the belt up to the top of the secondary. I'm assuming you don't have the adjuster holding the secondary open?

I was actually thinking the same thing and thought my back shift was wrong, so I asked Ulmer Racing. He said the back shift will never work while the sled is on a stand as the engine breaking will stop the track before the secondary is fully closed. Should not be the case while driving on snow.

The big black spacer shouldn't be loose if everything is correct, and that's why belt isn't pushed higher in clutch.
You removed the 3 screws from back of clutch?

With engine shut off, remove osp adjuster, can you work the belt any higher in clutch?
I take with one hand on each side of clutch and push belt against secondary, alternate with one and and the other, you get the hang of it.
Alternative, remove belt and measure distance between sheeves, with belt of the spacer should not be loose, and with adjuster backed off or completely removed the sheeves can't get closer to each other and belt can't be pushed any higher.
If sheeves doesn't get closer with adjuster removed there's something in clutch stopping sheeves from move close enough.
Remove helix and spring and inspect.

Great, with the belt a bit higher then sheeves, adjust the lockring so the spacer is hard to turn, lock the ring, drive.
Inspect when stopping on first trip, bring the allen key on the sled so you can fine tune.

Now that I have a few more miles on the adjuster, I am more confused than ever. Last year, I really had no issues with clutching and performance. In the right conditions, the sled topped out at 94 mph. This year, after installing the adjuster, I just don't seem to be able to get the same performance out of the sled; although one time I hit 90 downhill with a tailwind and perfect conditions, I have a hard time making 80, even in good conditions.
When I installed the adjuster, I set the adjuster with the sled on a stand so that the track crept. After running a few miles on the trail, I heard a squealing noise, so I tightened the adjuster @ 1/2 turn, and the squeal went away. Now there seems to be a hesitation when I give it WOT (could it be the rev-limiter, or is it belt slippage?) When I put it back on the stand, the more I loosen the adjuster, the more the track creeps; by tightening it, I lessen or eliminate the track creep. That seems to be the exact opposite of the OSP installation video that says a "good rule of thumb" is that you loosen the adjuster to stop track creep or squealing, and you tighten the adjuster when the sled is lagging off the start, like "2nd gear"!!! I don't understand the whole issue of belt height in the secondary. Mine always seems to be just below the top. I am thinking about just taking the adjuster off and going back to the original bolts and washers. Anyone have any thoughts, or HELP? Thanks in advance.
