OSP SR Viper belt adjuster with float

i just got mine. im having some issues. for one id like some questions answered. so you tighten or loosen till u get 1/16th belt over the secondary showing. yamaha spec. now for the plastic washer do u have it tight or do u keep it loose with .040 to .080 thow clearance? for the axel end play?

my belt while running is also going to top (neutral) and sometimes staying buried below secondary. doesn't seem to go back to neutral position all the time. when its not in neutral position and buried below the track, it moves on its own. 3 out of 4 times this happens. they never talk about endplay clearance in the video so im wondering what every 1 is doing?

There is no float or end play as you call it until the primary is engaged with OSP adjuster. Best way to set deflection is riding it. Keep backing adjuster off till belt squeals a bit when you come to a stop. Riding it a good ten feet each time you adjust. Once just at point it squeals a little bit back off adjuster 1/2 turn. Squeal should stop and you should have perfect deflection.

ok thanks i dont have any snow yet. so i cant other then on a stand with track elevated. but your deflection should still be 1/16th then for the top of secoundary, with no end play. the 1/16th yamaha belt spec shouldn't change right. thats ur optimal performance 4 ur belt.

That 1/16th above secondary is a general description. Dont sweat it. Just get it close and safe so it doesnt take off on you. Takes about 5 minutes to fine tune adjustment once you can drive it a little.

How many guys out there are using the osp adjuster with 8dn belt on stock clutches?? I installed mine with 8dn belt ( with the 3 adjustment bolts taken out) on the secondary and could not get it adjusted correctly. Belt was riding low in the secondary and the secondary was closed all the way . Also the deflection seemed very loose. So I put the 8jp belt back on and it adjusted up very nicely. I believe I could get away with using the 8dn as a spare in a pinch until I get my clutches machined for the 8dn by ulmer.

I am. No issues. Your secondary could not have been all the way closed unless you mean belt height was even or slightly below. That means nothing really. Is not reliable indication of proper deflection.

The belt height was below the secondary approx .020 or so and the adjuster was 1/8 -1/4 turn from being all the way out. It is a new 8dn belt also. Just didn't seem right but mayb it is. Do you worry to much about the deflection? Mine seemed very loose with the 8dn....much looser then with the 8jp. I really would prefer to run the 8dn....mayb I should put it back on and just try it.

I am running a 2016 XTX LE with the OSP adjuster. Mine made it most of the way up to the 1/16th over but not quite. That being said, even with the MPI it worked awesome. No slip, no smell and super fast pop on the throttle.

I ran it last yr on my 14 with machined clutches and the 3 bolts out for the 8dn and have the the hole way out and still could not get the belt to grab at idle or ride up in the secondary

I do worry about deflection but not on the stand. Like I have said I run mine 1/2 turn in from a slightly squealing belt so about as tight of deflection as possible without the squealing belt. Its almost impossible to get deflection set on a lift. I always set it on a bit of a ride in yard.

Well enough of you guys are having issues so maybe the OSP adjuster has changed. I dont know. It was so simple and easy for mine. Very happy. Maybe call OSP and ask him what is going on.

Ya,seems like guys are getting different results. I just wonder if center to center distances on the clutches may vary from sled to sled!? You think it's possible?

I shudder to think that but on the Cat side Turbos yes that has been found. Please tell me its a simple solution and not that!
