Primary clutch exploded

Forgot to mention my TD tuner wich is an AC guy told me he have 2 customer that completely exploded Team clutchs. One of thoses sled exploded 2 clutches. They are not racers. They did not seen anthing wrong on the machine. That was last year.

How are those with the Hurricane stub shaft holding up? Are those rollers wearing at a slower rate?
It looks to me that the problem is the accelerated roller wear. All the pictures of broken clutches look to have damaged or broken rollers. The vibration/harmonics seem to wear everything far more quickly. If that problem was cured the rest of the clutch seems OK?

The teams are blowing apart too. The steel spider expands at a different rate with the heat and cracks the aluminum around it. They are also harder to service, with less service parts available, not as tunable, and consistently slower than the yamaha clutches.

Another post with no evidence....We have a thread on HCS and still not one has posted any issues with TEAM. Sure when you run 270++ HP everything is going to let go sooner or later, but tell me how many TEAMs compared to how many WINDER primaries have issues, so far its not even close.

Met one guy in Quebec in 2017 that only put 40kms on his thundercat before the clutch let go
They recalled all 2017 clutches

This has been discussed many times, people should read entire thread IMO before posting same info that has been discussed....Just my pet peeve sorry gang.

The clutches don't just break all of a sudden, it can usually be caught if you inspect the clutches regularly!

See how the washer on the lower side of the roller is wore, that didn't just happen, the weight or roller had allowed for a incorrect swing for sometime previously.View attachment 144487

Great photo of wear on washer. This is a big help!

I hear ya...and I think Dave's stub shaft which reduces the harmonics, is a very smart item which will go a long way to YAM primary lifespan. Hard to say but maybe after the season we will have some solid data on the stub shaft and how it relates to clutch life, and maybe even belt life.

This is one area I believe Cat has the advantage over YAM....they have a history of factory turbo sleds with big power. And it took them awhile to sort things out. I believe when TEAM got involved things started getting better with clutch life and belt life for Cat. After the recall in early 17, things seem to have gotten pretty good, and now YAM is going thru the teething issues that Cat has been going thru since 09. Question is, will YAM step up? So far they have basically done NOTHING now for 3 seasons. I would bet you won't see any changes for '20 either.

Here are some pictures. Most of the time when someone posts an exploded team clutch, the post gets deleted from any fourm it's on, but magically they leave the blown up yamaha clutches online for all to see. There were more pictures of one on fb this morning that kept cracking covers off of it too, now somehow I can't find it....

Yes those were already posted right in this thread I believe....

What was said were they were 17 models which were recalled. So we have a thread on Cat forums, asking all those BIG TUNED Cat guys, and NOT one has issue...its always a older model. Not 18/19 after the recall.

As I said, anything can explode with the power we all put thru these 998s....but its very clear, 3 seasons on HCS and there is barely one or two posts about belts or clutches, while here on TY EVERY DAY there is blown belt threads, and rollers threads, and now seeing more blown primary posts....

Internet forums are a good way to get a consensus of what is happening, sure there are always more out there in the real world, but most guys will post a blow up clutch or bad belt life....and in the end, this forum is littered with belt/roller/clutch threads vs HCS having barely any.

That is not what i was referring to but yikes! Take a look in fb and you'll see whats happening to the clutch cover

I was trying to reference that one too. But didn't have proof of it, and I was getting ripped apart for saying it so....

Wondering if more soft primary spring with less weight and less tension on secondary will help to reduce pressure on primary ? :dunno:

Just scribe Yamaha on this clutch , and the faithful will be happy, next year they will come on Yamahas because of this problem of blowing up, easier to buy then redesign.
