Sorry, quoted the wrong article, this is the correct one.
View attachment 149467
Ok that article is really total BS. First off it’s not a long term trend of what’s happening in the snowmobile world.
Secondly it’s has numbers that
are way wrong!
1,85 million registered snowmobiles in the US and a $887 billion in net revenues from snowmobiling? Snowmobiling is the largest outdoor sport in terms of revenue?Really? NFW!!!
Do the math....
887,000,000,000/1,850,000=$479,459
So your trying to tell me that every single registered snowmobile brought in a net revenue of
$479,459? BS!
They screwed up the numbers, probably to make it sound good, or they are just that stupid?

I think that reads as the Outdoor Recreational Economy overall generates $887B. That likely includes boating, ATVng, snowmobiles, and who knows what else recreational - it may even include golfing! The misleading part is that they describe the snowmobiling sector as "a most important segment". I could be wrong.

Ahhh yes I think you could be correct.
I can tell you one thing, Snowmobiling is not the biggest outdoor recreation sport, that’s for dam sure. Fishing is
MUCH BIGGER,
It covers all states and is year round. Look at what people spend on boats, lodging, fuel, gear, ect.
I quit believing those BS snowmobile magazines years ago.....false news.

Boy, you guys are bunch of kill-joys.
What is not to understand? Did you read it or just skim over it? What numbers are fudged? For what reason?
If you want to argue over the placement and use of the word "most" I guess that's fair . But you cant deny it is an important segment, especially the farther north you go
The magazine in question is one put out by New Hampshire snowmobile association, not by Sno-tech, Sno-west etc. It is mailed to people who buy trails passes in N.H., not sold on stands. They don't really have a reason to print false info.
Geez, I just thought it was nice to read something POSITIVE for a change.....

I agree. Think of all the Hotels,Bars,Gas Stations and Restaurants that just shut down when fishing ends and open back up for at least the 3 big snowmobiling months heck even around here last year since trails were open alot the businesses obviously saw a great increase in $. We as a group may not be big are tightwads in off season but once snow is on the ground the wallets come out and no amount of $ stops us from riding and enjoying it!

Good morning guys are
we are mixing two things?
Impact directly to manufacture - snowmobile is a significant but not huge part of there plan- varies depending on mfg. we’re as local tourism economies are totally dependent on our activity.

Sorta. But sled sales lead to ATV,UTV,WaveRunner,Fishing Boat motor, generator and Power Washer sales heck even Stereos and Pianos and Bikes. Name one Yamaha snowmobile owner who doesnt own or want to own those other products or a Yamaha,Cat dealer who wants to see sales drop to almost nothing in Winter because of no product to sell.Good morning guys are

Thanks STAINMAN
No matter how you read those numbers, they all increased. Which is still better then decreasing.
Something was said that opened my eyes a bit more.
We always talk about new sales. We forget about the 75% of sleds bought are used.
I've visited some multi brand dealers lately, and they all said the used Apes sell right away & are still pulling in top dollar.
When these newbies get used to Yamaha quality, they may be more apt to buy a new Yamaha when the time comes.
Even Allan Ulmer was saying his Apex stuff has been selling real good lately.
The other thing that should be noted is the Russian 88% increase. Maybe Yamaha saw this & that's why they came back with the VK.
SALES are SALES as long as their snowmobiles, it's still SNOWMOBILE sales.
Snowmobiles are a small part of every companies repertoire, but they all want to keep customers buying their line-up.
Polaris snowmobilers will buy Polaris Side by Sides.
Ski-Doo snowmobilers will buy Sea-Doos.
Yamaha snowmobilers will buy Yamaha boat motors, generators, boats, motorcycles, quads, side by sides and maybe even a guitar or a flute.
YAMAHA is staying in the snow biz! And THAT is what this whole thread is supposed to be about!!!!!!!

sorry to say global warming is not effecting sled sales, this is a fact at least in minnesota!!!!theres always stretches of bad snow years and always has been!!!
Years ago there were trails throughout Iowa, southern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, Northern Indiana, and the lower peninsula of Michigan used to be HUGE!
We have lost half of our trail systems in the Midwest over the past 35 years and that’s a fact.
Kids down south no longer can ride around the farm on their old Skiroule, that’s what got them into the sport.
People have to drive 4 hours to get too good snow most of the winter.
Sorry to pee on everyone’s parade, didn’t know everyone was living in such denial, but it’s the truth.

^ I can't speak for other areas, but the trail system here in southern WI is quite vast, and certainly hasn't declined. In fact very near to me there are 3 trails that now connect towns again that hadn't existed for 25 years.
Dane county alone has over 500 miles of trails.
As long as there's good snow, I never have to go farther north than Portage.
I do agree though that frequent good snow has declined dramatically around here in recent years.

Many years in the 2000’s your trails didn’t even open at all in your area. If they did you were lucky to get a month of riding. Prior to that you could count on a solid two or three months or the trails being open.
You consider the past few years good conditions, but if you compare to the 70’s and 80’s these past couple of “good years” would have been considered horrible years in your area.

Sorry, but you needed somebody to beat up on anyway!
You optimistic glass is a 1/4 full characters better hope Mother Nature is on your side,
especially with close to 50% of sled sales globally in the lower 48.

Here are the facts, nothing has changed as far as snowfall good years and bad...the 80's seemed much better but it was not any different..

Dats in da past plenty of time to get back on track if it’s worth it to ya. Unfortunately doesn’t seem to be worth it when the future is the snow division.
