UPDATE August 27. - Installing heat shield, cover plate stock exhaust holes, sealing up the tunnel.

Started preparetions for the turbo header install this evening. First off was installing the heat shield to underneat the turbo header. It required some modifications on the LH side to allow the header to slide into place.

Next thing was shielding off a few holes left from the MCX charge tube. Fabricated a aluminum plate to cover up a small hole in the bulkhead frame, added loads of black silicone (Tech7) and riveted the alu plate into place. I then added Tech7 to seal off every hole I could find in front of the tunnel to keep water from spraying the clutches.

Next was preparing to install the exhaust cover plate. I drilled out holes in the bulkhead frame for the rivets, marked the holes onto the cover plate and drilled out the holes.

The exhaust cover plate lined up nicely with the holes for the rivets, ready to be installed. Will not install the plate until I have cut the hole in the frame for the downpipe.

Looks good...I would never go through that much for a seat, but if you're going for the stock look, it might be the only way to go...Good to see good friends wrenching together....I'm mostly alone over here...LOL

The stock look is what we prefer over the REV look #$%&*
It's a lot of work but that's what a guy have to do to keep the stock look :o|

Pack all your stuff in a trailer and come over to wrench with us when you're off duty :rocks: :4STroke: :drink:

Hahaha :tg: what can I say... actually there's two MCX turbo kits, two ZX-2 skids, two Yamaha gas tanks and two stock exhausts on the floor. Out with the MCX turbo, stock exhaust pipes, MCX charge tubes. If I could sell all that I have taken off my sled I would have enough to buy the turbo parts I need for my front mount upgrade project.

UPDATE August 28. - Installing header, Top heat shield, WildChild steering relocation kit.

I went out late last night to work on my sled, started working just before midnight zzZZzzZzZzzzZZZz but had to work on my sled or else I would not sleep well anyway :tg:

Installed the turbo header and exhaust gasket. Some of the bolts were a challenge, finally I got all of them to enter the threads, tightened them down to spec, starting with the bolts in the center.

The header seen from above, it fits nicely :-9

Next I installed the rod that hooks onto the steering assy on the RH side. I greased the ball joints well prior to install.

Tried to figure out how the downpipe would look like and where to cut the hole for it.

I do not have the turbo at this time to make the measurements on where to make the cut, I have to postpone that part until I have all parts in.

Next I installed the WildChild steering relocation kit and hooked it up to the steering linkage and adjusted the steering gate approximately.

I also modified the top heat shield to fit.

That's about what I can do without having the turbo parts from Powder Lites delivered. I called it the day (night) at 1:45 AM

UPDATE August 29. - Working on the tank covling.

With the WildChild steering relocation kit installed the tank covling did not fit anymore, I had to cut out a piece of about 30 millimeter wide and 35 millimeter deep to make room for the steering post.

2008_08290022.jpg

After the cutting I installed the REV gas tank.

2008_08290023.jpg

The fiber glass piece I molded earlier on did not fit with the tank in place. I have added rubber spacers (3 millimeters) underneat the tank to keep it from rubbing on the rivets in the frame, I also moved the tank as far forward as possible (about 2.5 cm or 1"). Now the molded piece do not fit anymore, I also forgot to take the filler neck rubber piece into account, it added another 3 millimeters to the height. Right now it seems like I have to mold a new piece to go into the middle of the tank covling. Time will tell .....

The tank covling middle piece had to be redone as the first one I made did not fit at all. My friend Mikkel came by this evening and we finished the fiberglass molding tonight. It should be dry and hardened tomorrow morning, will check out how it went then.

First thing was to make a template to act as a spacer between the tank and the covling. Then we masked the covling to hinder polyester to spill on the covling sides. On we went with applying the polyester and fiberglass sheets.

Here's some pics

A little info on my weight shaving project.

Starting in the summer of 2006, I have put all parts coming off the sled and new parts going in as well on the scale. At the end of last season (2007/2008) I had shaved off a total of 27.7 kgs or 61 lb. Including weight savings this summer so far, I'm at a total weight saving of 39.2 kgs or 86 lb. There may be some more to shave off. I'm looking into shaving off some from the hood as well. My sled should be a lot easier to handle in the deep and steep this coming season, can't wait to see if I can feel any difference :-o LaLaLa :pics:

When will you have the turbo in house? I have a extra GT2554R with a T25 flange. I could ship it to you - so you could fit the exhaust pipe.

Thanks for your offer TT :)

Is the Garrett GT2554R exactly the same size as the Garrett GT2860RS-739548-5?

obr has the exact same turbo in the Nytro kit as the one I have on order, he offered me the same as you did.

Thank you guys, TT and obr, you are the best. That's what makes this site what it is.

THANKS FOR HELPING ME OUT :)

Just do it buddy, I might as well take a ride up to Karasjok, have some business assosiates to visit, I might as well put the two together next thursday.

You got PM

TT - got email from Dave at Powder Lites, he had my friends stage 3 turbo header in the works, all other parts were ready to ship, he would be catching up on our order after the weekend. As of now we're putting your turbo on hold, I will get back to you if I need it. I'm in no hurry on fitting the downpipe as I have the tank covling molded and sent to my good friend Mikkel for finishing the fitting of the new fiber glass piece to the tank covling, he will also do the paint job on the covling and the new fiber glass piece. I also have to fit the seat like you have seen done to my friends Attak, guess I will have a few weeks of work before I need the turbo :)

Anyway - thank you VERY MUCH for your offer. Talk to you later.
