sidewinder chaincase lube

Amsoil chaincase oil is my plan also after inspection and tac welding idler bolts.
I'm also going to give Amsoil 0-30 signature series a try for engine oil.
That's what I'm using too! 0W-30 Signature Series Amsoil.

There's viscosity, fluidity, pour point, and lubricity. Because of how these are measured (ASTM & SAE methods) low pour point is not equal to low viscosity and/or fluidity. It's complicated. If you're ever bored, take some time and try to go through how these things are measured. Again, I choose to invoke "blind faith" (maybe that's a mistake on my part?) that high-quality oil manufacturers formulate and manufacture products for specific purposes, and have done the necessary and required testing to support it. From a technical perspective, some better than others. As with motor oils for engines, there's a minimum level of performance that's needed to prevent failure. All we need is to meet, and hopefully exceed that minimum level. Just because there's not been a failure doesn't mean the oil used was the best it could be. It just means the oil performed at least at or above the minimum required. That's the basis for the testing 540Rat did for his oil blog ( https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/). Some oils just plain can withstand higher temps, lubricate better before breaking down, etc, etc.
The good news is there are many oils that will work in a chain case and not result in failure.

I was wondering if anyone was using amsoil severe gear 75-90 synthetic oil on their sidewinders? if not then what is the best chaincase lube to use? Thanks mike
Polaris chaincase full synthetic best oil on the market,$20 a liter

I ran redline shockproof in apex for yrs...it was GREEN in color...lol.

I wonder how it would do in these 998 cases?

Dan

I ran it in My Apex, and been running it in my 18 winder...so far so good...

Redline makes great products. Even the name indicates PERFORMANCE
My dealer's prices around here are 1 1/2 times higher then Amsoil.

Also a good chain lube will have "anti-foam" agents in there. This is more important with chains over gears because all those links need lube in those tiny pins compared to a few big gears. Foam means air & air doesn't lube

I've used Redline, Klotz, Joe Gibbs racing, Lucas & just about everything except Olive Oil.

P.S: Olive oil is a great cooking oil & can be drank raw with multiple medicinal uses including insomnia. But Algae oil has 75% less saturated fats and more monounsaturated fat (the good fat)
P.S2: Some times we run the good stuff in our machines, but fill our bodies with the CRAPPY oils causing us to NOT ride all day & keep up with the lean mean OCD machine

Amsoil & Algae oil is how i roll.......................and Hot Dogs! Can't resist

Lol..ya I like their(Red Line) stuff! It’s high quality.

Absolutely! I think OCD is of Mediterranean decent? Island of Sardis maybe?
I’m half Italian half Herring choker so I’m partial to Fish & Krill oils!
Although I think the Hawaiian mail man might have something to do with my affinity for Coconut oil?

Just food for thought. Some Front wheel drive transmissions. Have chains in them. Wrapped around gears. I know ice drag racers that used atf with additives. Thinner means faster.Redline has moly in it. Amsoil is corn oil based. Synthetic means it's not from dinosaurs. Or Fossil fuel. So just go with what works for you. Just more boring facts from me. So what does Yamaha recommend for my Vectors? And how often to change?
Thanks.

Regular ATF has a poor viscosity index, in cold temps it’s actually very thick compared to synthetic lubes. I used to have it in my plow pump, when it was cold the dam thing was so frickin slow to raise and lower.
Well I have full synthetic Mobil in now and wow what a difference! Pick yer poison, Redline light shockproof, AMS chaincase synthetic with graphite, it’s all good. I’m trying the AMS this year. I used Heavy shockproof previously, but I think it’s a tad too thick.

Good point they use Dexron ATF in our Hoist pumps. The slowest Hoist I ever lowered. It was Zero degrees when I lowered it onto.the flatbed tow truck for the guy who bought it in an online auction. Four Post Alignment Hoist. The shop was closed for good so no heat. Maybe synthetic ATF would be better. But I am sure the mechanical parts had something to do with that too. At least your plow pump didn't freeze and foam like mine did. My point I geuss is ATF is thinner than gear oil.

I’m not sure why people insist on using ATF in hydraulic systems? It’s a cheapskate fluid that’s easy to find, not really the best choice that’s for certain. It has friction modifiers for the wet clutches, not needed. I suppose a synthetic atf would work well but it still has a bunch of additives you wouldn’t need in a plow or hoist.
A much better choice for a hoist or plow would be a good synthetic hydraulic oil aw32 or aw46 weight.
The only reason I had it in my plow was that’s what the nit wits used when they installed it.

In my case. The Hoist manufactures. Will use the cheapest fluid available. Ours is highly filtered! Lol. Anyway all the Above ground Automotive Hoist manufacturers use it. I have had good luck with many chaincase lubes. In my many 2 strokes. My biggest concern with my Vectors is the grinding going into Reverse. I know it is a linkage problem. Thanks to this site! So I have done the adjustment twice on my 2016. Works good. But what about all the grinding? Do I flush the chaincase disassemble and clean? And what do I refill with?
Thanks.

I need to meet you someday. LOL.

What about Avacado oil? That's what I prefer
