Think its worth the investment of picking them up even though i have adjustable weights? what are the downsides? what advantage do the bigger ones have?
Don't really see any drawbacks at all. The smaller rollers will help you achieve belt grip beyond what an adjustable weight can do. With the heavier osp weights that I'm using I guess one could say that the clutch engages "too low"...which is false, I don't feel there's such a thing as too low but I have been looking for higher engagement for backyard racing so it has been a bit of a struggle and I've had to go to aftermarket springs to achieve that. Mine would engage at 2400 with gwg Yamaha spring and 4mm worth of primary shims, was awesome for trail riding or to have my wife ride it whenever she'd go. Basically as soon as you hit the gas it was moving but very smooth and predictable. I've settled now on the heelclicker white spring which has got my engagement up to 3300, it's still smooth moving the sled around, time will tell if the snow can hold the added torque when launching on stutter or if I'll need to go back to the more calm primary springs. Either way I don't foresee taking the 14.5mm rollers out for any circumstance.

I have 14.5 rollers in my 14 rtx and works great. Basically the same set up I used in my 11 nytro xtx with soft start spring from schmitt bros everything else is stock and have radared at 103 mph !

What other components? Stock weights, secondary spring and helix?

103 is a good number. Most are lucky to break 100.
I got 99 once, but it was in the back of my truck at the time. Lol

103 is a good number. Hate to say this but was it on ice?

Honestly I am sick of talking clutching. Here's the thing. My sled holds rpm perfectly and I can make the rpm anything I want. Have been up and down and sideways with rpm and it don't matter. Mph is what it is. Thousands of dollars and countless hrs for 107mph. if clutching is inconsistent or banging rev limiter then by all means clutch work is needed but if not don't waste your time or $.

More/better performance would be great..but we all know that it's all about power when it comes to top speed. I'm more curious at this point if swapping out the stock rollers would help with some of the simple problems..seems like the 3 biggest complaints with the viper when it comes to performance..harsh engagement, banging the rev limiter and poor top speed. Rev limiter and top speed are in direct relation to each other..lower peak rpm down a bit so you're off the rev limiter and you'll gain mph (to a certain extent). Put smaller rollers in and engagement rpm is going to drop with added belt grab..without actually doing it myself I'd hafta assume the extra belt grip is going to make engagement and slow speeds more rideable as I wouldn't be surprised if there's some minor belt slip down low with these hard Yamaha belts. Should specify too that I'm implying about stock sleds with stock clutching. If you were to go out and buy a kit or put together your own with new parts I doubt you can do it for much under $300..seems like all the complete clutch kits are $300+ and they'll take care of these issues but at $80 for a set of rollers from thunder products maybe it's a much cheaper alternative for the guys that just want to keep it simple and maybe cure some of the minor things. Hoping once snow hits that someone with a stock clutching machine can give this a try and just see if there is a benefit..I'd try it myself but all my buddies dumped their vipers and are on sidewinders now so no test dummies here anymore.

Radar run on plowed lake run with a bit of set up snow. All stock weights, stock secondary spring ,8dn belt air box mod and thats it. My buddy has a viper with a big venom kit and only ran 98 mph. Mine is perfect for moving around slow on pavement before it would rip the cement up. Hate to say it but it engages like a ski poo now.Oh ya never hits the rev limiter either.

Stock helix as well?

Now this is really clutching on the cheap! I wonder if it would work well with 8jp? Slipping belt is what started this slippery slope of clutching to look for speed for me. Could it be so easy! Thanks for sharing mopar yam! Oh and studroes for starting this again!

My sled was converted to the 8dn when i bought it last year. I always try to get the most out of factory set up before switching to aftermarket. Maybe im just cheap but if it works with factory quality stuff you know it will be dependable! I hope lol

None of the clutching stuff yet has been "cheap" if u ask me..even the cotc setups were still right there at that $300 mark if you had to go buy new parts and that's really the only way to base thing off of since there is a very limited supply of used parts. Cannondale u know I was always fond of those aggressive style weights..still am, stock weights in the viper are almost identical in profile to the d&d weights so honestly I wouldn't be surprised if doing smaller rollers with stock weights is as much or better of a gain as it would be to run aftermarket weights with the stock rollers..u can adjust the aftermarket weight to get your rpm right but you still aren't going to achieve that same initial belt force compared to smaller rollers. Can't imagine there's any difference to be had in top speed between the 2 but could be some improvements in the first few hundred feet.

When it comes to clutches I'd say you're spot on with the factory quality stuff, and if it works and works well then there's no such thing as being cheap!

Yup I like aggressive weight also especially since gearing higher. Will try this but I am thinking will be needing to go more aggressive on Primary spring. How much you want to bet the stock primary spring is going to be what I want! LOL!
