After doing some lurking on dootalk, It seems that DOO left alot on the table with the 800R with the clutching, because it seems that most of the 800R's are over reving by 300-350RPM. Trust me, that's alot on a 2 stroke. They all seemed to be having to add like a gram and half or even 2 grams to the total pin weight, which is alot of weight and that seems to be really waking up the sleeping giant with a combination of jetting it down a couple of main sizes. I think we have not seen the true potentiel of these sleds yet. If I'm right, they will be a 120mph sled with simple jetting clutching and gearing changes, plus getting there in a very quick way.

Again I ask: Why would doo make it such a turd out of the box??
They have done nothing but rave on just how hot this sled was going to be. I know if I had bought one because of all the hype that was going around I would be real upset that I would have to spend another $500-1000 just to make the thing run like it should out of the box. But then again most people who buy the 800 xp have no problem upgrading the sled before they even ride it it seems.

Likely they jetted fat from the factory to make the motors last longer, as that adds a huge huge margin of safety on a 2 stroke. It is possible that jetted down, if you do happen to blow a motor, they could say no on warrenty coverage if they wanted. So glad we dont have to worry about jetting.

Tork, I agree, but I hear that it's really fat... I have jetted many two strokes down and none have blown from just that. It's the head work and porting and timing issues that made mine blow up.
Having owned a 4 stroke the last 2 seasons, this is the best sled I have ever owned as far as the motor is concerned. Reguardless of a 4 stroke or two stroke, I will never split a motor again and start playing with the internals. The gains are not worth the headaches.
I just add bolt on parts now. ie. exhaust, airbox mods, fuel controllers etc.... and clutching. Those are pretty safe and help just enough to beat your buddy.... That's what really counts.

Has anyone heard what the doo dyno'ed at - that should say whether it was at the 150 mark or not. If it was close to that, doubt it will be that much faster after break-in

Well if it making that kind of HP, lets not hear this BS about it not being broken in. Seems like the doo faithful always got an excuse when they don't win. They are begining to sound like a broken record!

Just a correction from previous threads I read. You don't have to take the jack shaft out for the helix.
The 800 r gains 5-6hp dropping 3 main jets.
The sled with jetting and running coreect rpm's will be an animal.

No doubt with the right tuning, the 800r will be fast. Out of the gate it reminds me of the Mach Z ( for it's so-so performance ) from what I have read here and on many other sled forums. The previous Machs needed alot of dialing in too to get them up to their expectations. It's nice to see Yamaha has had some decent box stock performance the last few years.
