Good info here...Most the turbo crowd is savvy here and knows what we should expect.
Im leaning toward ordering a Mach. As you guys know Im all about a new sled every couple seasons and try them all.
I believe the SRX stock for stock will still beat the MACH on top end. Moreso on ICE. Yamaha did a smart thing when they released the SRX, giving it a 1" track and lower slung suspension. BRP could have(and should have IMO) gave us the option of a 1" track. Instead they give us a 1.25 ripsaw 2-ply(not rip2) or an optional Ice ripper 1.25(single ply). Why any Mach Z buyer would want an optional Ice ripper is beyond me, but gees at least give us a 1". This IMO would have gone a long way to top speed, bringing it closer to the SRX on a long haul. I have seen a bone stock SRX run 120GPS on Ice before its even broke in. It was much harder for other Winders to achieve this bone stock with higher suspension and 1.25 rip2. Rmotion has never been a top speed skid, and most guys hit a wall around 115gps. Hoping BRP has addressed this with lowering.
I do agree BRP has likely been testing with a SRX mule...I believe the stock Mach will pull past a stock SRX out of the hole pretty hard, up til 85 or so. If the race is 1320, it will go to the Mach IMO. Longer haul, I believe the SRX comes up on, and walks past the Mach.
Another thing that is not sitting well with me...I don't want or need Smart-Shox. The additional tech, sensors, wiring, just begs for more issues IMO. BUDS will be needed to do any work if you remove track, or a shock and likely when I do my post forward mod. Since there is also a sensor for steering position. Grrr. Also, I don't need or want the $800 7.8 prem gauge, but BRP shoves these items down our throat if we want the Mach. And prices it to the sky. grrrr. All this adds a substantial weight penalty of 17lbs to the already heavier XRS model. Mach weighs in at 548lb vs XRS at 531lbs. And the XRS is already several lbs above the X/ADR models(524lb).
So the weight is still substantially less then the Winder, but the Mach has gained some weight with all the new TECH.
In the end, 998 is a proven engine with bigger tunes. I don't see the 900r being able to be tuned much above the 200Hp or so we think it will come with out of the box SAFELY. Im sure tunes will come along, since it now has bigger injectors and likely a bigger wheel.
We did get some clutching info from Qc. which was nice to see....the 900t was clutched like an old mans sled. Buddy had one last season and I did not like it. 900r now gets new weights(83g) (#897Mach) (#880 X/ADR/XRS 900r)with higher engagement hump, new 160/290 primary spring and now finally a gr/gr(180/303) compression QRS spring. Similar setup we like in the 900t that made it work well.
Should be interesting next winter. I love a new project.

I love my sidewinders, I have 4 at various tune levels from stock to big turbo. I have had many races against the 900t. The biggest Doo was tuned to 195hp. We have logged at least 25 races against each other. We only race from a dig for 660ft. It runs dead even with my stock tune xtx (141 track cut to 1” lug). The Doo 195 tune was at 15 psi. If the Mach is running 17.4 psi with antilag, I already know what the outcome will be. A tune will be needed on the sidewinder to stay in front. Also worth noting, we tried the 195 Doo against my SRX set at MX Spool 20 and it wasn’t worth a second run.

I want to read more but I have to go rebuild my chaincase again. Maybe a little slower sled in exchange for reliability wouldn't be such a bad thing?

I'm looking forward to seeing some of these sleds out on the lakes next year. Like all sleds, some guys will get them working better than others, and I think Doo has given the guys who tune a better platform to start from. There will be some quick Mach Z's next winter, no doubt about that.

The Doo guys are going to get great vids and build threads from Dan!! I feel we will get a honest evaluation from rockerdan here. Good luck Dan if you go doo Mach Z and I still think competition is good!! And I gotta say I agree 100 % with you on the sno trackers getting bad gas mileage and have a lot of drag. To each their own and I know Mike likes them but I got to try the aggressive for 1000 miles this year. Not for me.

Everone is different...Thank God...or we would all be trying to live in the same house, married to the same women, driving the same same sleds, and vehicles ect ect.
I embrace variety as it makes everything interesting and I always steer away from what everyone else is doing or buying.
Everyone just needs to do their own thing and not fall in with the masses of sheeple.
I never bother racing anyone that I don't feel is competative with my sleds...one of the downsides of a tuned Winder in my area...heck I haven't even run it above 240hp all season!
I like to race, both formal and informal, and I have since my first sled race over 50 years ago.
I have to go to the organized drag races with my Winder and enter the Improved boosted class to see how my tuning is stacking up as none of our riding group is even on the same planet with my SW.
My Apex a lot of times is more fun on the trails as lots of people are willing to take it on...LOL...usually to their demise.

Does anyone know the compression ratio of the new 900? Has it been lowered so that more boost can be added. 17.4 is getting up there, isn't it? This engine also runs a thousand less RPM than the Yamaha.
I'm thinking that there won't be much left on the table for tuners to add.

I went, the snow was melting fast here friday and dealer said it was too green(grass) to let me demo it. GRRR. I spent an hour tearing into it in the shop. Really a cool sled. Shocks are killer. Buddy rode it up north and got a good review, that is a cool sled if you like uncoupled skid that wheelies...super playful, but a high price point.Dan, did you not demo the Lynx yet?

I’m not getting a Mach but I will be getting an X pkg Renegade with the Mach engine. I also still ride with my stock 17 Winder so side by side comparisons will be pretty easy.
The best part is I will be comparing two completely stock sleds and not modified ones. The problem with modified sleds is they will never be fair comparisons because there are too many variables.
Like every year since I bought my Winder next fall I will be doing all the pre season maintenance on my old Winder and hopefully my 900tr will be in by then.

Had LINX here about 20 minutes from me. I work with the guy who runs Doo Talk. Jeff is a good guy and rides a lot. We chat some at work even though we run different colors. He said it’s crazy ski lift and really not flat at all. Killer shocks and made for big bumps. Maybe the younger guys that want to wheelie over big bumps. But I’m under the impression it’s really not a flat cornering sled.(by design) I did not ride just what I heard. So don’t take to much meaning in it.

Good points...me and the guys I run with often have the same sleds. But we actually like things more on seasons where we all own something different. Nothing better then swapping rides on same trails/same day...only way to know if you ever would want one. Heck that was why I bought a 850 2smoker last season, after riding buds 850 and feeling how easy it was to pound through the junk with no bottoming and never getting tired, it was a cool change after Winder.
I think owning 2 sleds for me will be the most awesome, choose which sled I want for which trails we will ride for that given day. Best of all worlds. Lynx is high on my list for 2 smoker to try next.
Heck next year maybe POO will bring their new Turbo 2 smoker to the flatland. Since their new turbo makes more HP even at sea level(185hp ish). Things will be interesting next yr, BRP will have to actually add HP to their 2s turbo now to compete. Since it only maintains HP at elevation currently.

I had the chance to ride the Lynx this past weekend as my brother had it all day to ride on Friday. Certainly a nice machine....a wheelie monster for sure being able to lift at any point. For corners, it definitely required more body english to keep the ski's down. We set the rear suspension compression to full soft and it was still a harsher ride than I prefer. I'm sure the thing can soak up really big bumps though. The steering was super light, but I did not like how twitchy the steering was and constantly followed tracks and darted which drove me crazy. Overall would be a fun playful sled if that's what people are looking for.
