The mod is AWESOME, leave it on 2 bars and smile
This is aggravating as hell for me. I've put up with cold hands on this sled for 2 seasons. I put the updated bars on my 06, and they still suck. Sold the 06 bars on ebay as I thought I wouldn't need them. So now it's Nov. 07, is there any way to get decent heat out of the 07 bars on an 06 sled, without running afoul of Yamaha's warnings?

I have removed this mod and put the updated bars back on. I bought a set of Heat Loc's (pro series) from Sled Solutions and hope to run the sled like this. Seems like the best option to me.

Pretty much a stripped down version of gauntlets.
Sled Solutions (TY sponsor) sells them: http://www.sledsolutions.com/store/prod ... cts_id=217

An update for those of you with an '07 that froze your hands last year:
I just swapped out the bars that came on the sled, with a pair of '06 take offs that I bought from a guy on here ($30.00 shipped) . Everything fit together without any mods, splicing or butchery of any sort.
The original bars, set at full power read 90 degrees on my infrared thermometer while at idle. After the swap, at half power read 120 degrees while at idle. I am not ready to say this cured my problem, but the initial results are very encouraging. I will know for sure when it gets the real world test, and I will forward my results to you then.
This site is second to none when it comes to the sharing of ideas, problems and solutions. Thanks everyone for all your help!!!

Dan and others suggested not more then 4 bars.
ROCKERDAN said:I agree...we had some milder days recently and I found myself cutting them OFF here and there....but typically I run em at half (4 bars) when we come out of restaurant, then after about 2 miles down to 2 bars..then 1 bar once gloves get nice and hot...usually at 1 bar 99% time...love it.
and I agree..I also beleive it was gonna fail it would have by now...ill be close to 1000 new miles by weeks end.

No horror stories, just 1500 miles of hot hands!

I apologize if what I am going to mention has already been stated in this post. I was discussing hand warmer issues with a fellow APEX rider today. He actually sprayed insulation inside his handlebars with the hope that they would hold heat better. He rode all last season with this setup and feels that it made a significant improvement in heat retention within the bars. To do this he drilled holes in the handlebar end and then placed a cap over the whole to cover it up.
I may try this as well. I can't think of any harm that this would cause since the bars are just a hollow tube.

I actually have an '07 so I haven't had much issues with the warmers. I thought I would try the insulation just because I figured I had nothing to lose.
I live in Lancaster. I ride here (usually out of Holland), Tug Hill every so often, and usually a trip up to North Bay. I'd love to get up to Canada a bit more but the two little kids make it a bit tough!!
