· The quality and durability of the engine has not changed. The engine meets the same level of quality assurance as the previous version. ????

Agreed, I had a MCX control box sent to me a couple yeas ago that would have blown up my Phazer had I not checked AFR and put on an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. With that in mind, once I hear this from MPI who has done countless turbos on 2016 engine (see new side by side) I will believe it. Be very careful people bashing a major vendor, if you cannot prove it you might get sued....it has happened before.
Who is bashing who here??!!! When I read this post it appears like you are. The rod problem is not an MPI or MCx problem. It would appear to be a Yamaha problem.

I totally agree that internet and forums is a place where rumors start without even any evidence.
With that said i am a owner of a 16 viper with a 190 mcx kit. When this "rumors" with the rods started i was not to worried, as i though and hoped that it would only affect with the guys in the 270Hp ++ range.
But i have now been in contact with Erik at MCX, and they have now performed extended testing under full load, and the rods do not hold up. I am advised to not use my Viper at this point due to high risk of engine failure.
I believe most of us here can agree that MCX and Erik has a good reputation with building turbo products for the Yamaha engines, so i just need to trust him on this.
I have to say i am disappointed with Yamaha. I did a lot of investigation and reading about the Viper before i ordered. Not one place has it been mentioned that there is big changes to the motor, even the dealers back home did not know about it before it came up on this forum.
I waited until now with buying the Viper because now it has been out 3 years, and i hoped most of the small bugs were sorted out.
If i had known about the engine changes i would have thought twice before buying...

Yikes. So Yamaha offers a dealer installed and warrantied 190hp kit?
Didn't I read somewhere that Yamadog's built engine has Carillo rods?
Not that this helps those that got screwed, but it could be a way forward.
For all the testing and validation MPI had to go through to get their system approved you'd sure thing that Yamaha would have sent them a new config 2016 for testing...

I guarantee Yamaha will stand behind their factory authorized AND dealer installed 2016 turbo Vipers. The other huge expense of a ruined trip are on you.

Yeah they'll probably take the compressor wheel of the turbo. That will fix it...
Or better yet the new GYTC compressor wheel:

No but the resale of my early order ltx le just when up!![]()

Yes mine does. The 14 blew up early on and when I had it built I opted for the Carrillo rods, ARP studs and low compression pistons because my eventual goal was over 300 hp. There are guys out there doing it on stock parts but mine was already apart and needed pistons an rods anyhow so I upgraded. Burn down from over boost with too low of octane for the stock timing curve was one problem I was eliminating and pressure related stress failure was the other I was worried about. Allen is now finishing mine to be at 320 ish hp.
I am not sure how much difference there is in the new crank but I would think that the Carrillo rods for a Nytro or viper would fit.

I was at my Yamaha dealer a couple days ago and I priced this new rod the new rod costs 162$,and the older nytro cost 186$ canadain.this must explain why it's cheaper.
New crank is probably going to be the next weak link...

I would have to agree on it being a Yamaha problem, on my 2014 I ran15-16# boost on completely stock internals and it still runs like a Clock. Boy am I ever glad that I kept my early build 2016 but I feel sorry for all the guys who got the new motors including my buddy who I just installed a turbo for last weekend. I'm not sure how to break it to him that he can't ride his sled now for fear of splitting the motor.

I snow-checked my Viper in April, so I'm not sure if I have the new build motor or not. My dealer is still finishing things up on the sled, so I have not taken delivery yet. I really don't expect to get rideable snow for 3 or 4 weeks at least (thanks El Nino), so maybe Yamaha will issue a TSB by then. Even if I do have the new motor, I'm riding it anyway...I've got a 3 year warranty, if it blows up, it's on Yamaha... If I leave it parked waiting for a fix, I'm still not riding , so what's the difference?

BINGO!!! My feelings exactly. That being said, none of this has yet been substantiated to my satisfaction.
