love those gates carbons on my doos also. i won't run them over 2k miles though .What? Your kidding right? How can a longer belt give more mph, I have used the 8dn but it has its limitations for top speed but for trail riding it was fine. That's why I use the gates carbon fibre it give more of everything.

Real world experience ( groomed trail) has shown me no difference in speed , acceleration or any performance differences. Snow changes makes such a huge difference with this chassis it's impossible to notice any small difference from a belt.
I've marked my primary to see how high the belts run, 8jp and 8dn run exactlt the same height.
The only reason I run the 8dn is because I had a belt failure at full throttle with the 8 jp and so far so good with 8dn. The 8dn does seem to be cleaner but I still have lots of belt dust.

I'm gonna be running an XTX equivalent to 8JP

I agree they do come up the same on the primary but not the same in secondary because its to long that's why you lose overdrive. Carbon fiber keeps everything clean and the only downside is cost but they have a warranty.

Are you talking about gates? I have no experience with them. Maybe sometime, I got to many belts in the garage now lol.I agree they do come up the same on the primary but not the same in secondary because its to long that's why you lose overdrive. Thats what I have run since SRX days but 8dn length 5033. They did have a bad batch a year ago though. Easy to tell. If you bend it backward it cracks between cogs. They admitted the issue and sent me new belt no questions asked. Way easier on sheaves and very close in clutching to 8DN.I'm gonna be running an XTX equivalent to 8JP
This is what I found with NO clutching for belts other than 8jp
Gates=8800
XTX=9100
8DN=9200
You guys have plenty of power so not a big deal but us Viper guys clutched right to rev limiter in good condition to get the most speed. Withing 50 rpm. If you are looking for the most speed stick with one belt or you will be clutching for the different belts. I wish I had but was in the heat of winter and ticked off after going through a 8jp every 500 miles stock with dirty clutches and massive slipping at top end. Many have it figured out so I will not condemn the 8JP even though it caused me alot of headaches with inconsistancy. You will know quickly if the clutching/belt stock works and from all reports it works awesome.
Has anybody tried the Ultimax XS belt on their viper. I have used them since my 06 Attak was new. 9800 miles later i'm on my 3rd belt.

The longer belt will suffer down low but might have better top end only If the shorter belt does not get full OD. Otherwise I will stick with the shorter 8jp length. Do most find the 8jp to be too short?

other way around the 8dn will have better low end because it gets out the driven further that the 8jp .the 8jp is about .030 wider though .The longer belt will suffer down low but might have better top end only If the shorter belt does not get full OD. no ,wider,shorter = more mph .you know i'm not new to this ?over drive driven helps bottom end if your using more gear ,over drive drive helps get the belt into the driven .if you stall the driven with a plastic shim like we do on a bear cat driven it will keep the belt from going into the driven too far and unloading .that pretty much means the 8jp is too short then no?

The center to center changed (shorter) when they put the Yamaha engine in the ProCross if I remember right. Far as I know all Yamahas that came stock with 8dn had same ctc.that pretty much means the 8jp is too short then no?

This was debated in several longgg threads in the viper forum. Most that switched to the 8dn had better performance. Less dust, and it eliminated the clutch slippage and high clutch temps vs the jp. Now the winder is a different setup so it remains to be seen how it will play out on it. I will run with the stock jp for a while to see how it runs and to see how much dust it creates, then I will switch to the dn. If no issues with the dn I will keep it on there. Much cheaper to buy and has been proven for how many years?
I don't see how it being a little longer would change anything. Maybe if you just stick it on and don't adjust the deflection. If you adjust your deflection so the belt is tight and up at the top of the secondary it should perform exactly the same as the jp with it's deflection set alike. Every belt you buy is not 100% the exact same width and length. They actually very quite a bit. As shown also in the viper forum from people measuring them before buying one to get the widest one in stock.

It was and I agree it was a easy cheap fix. Many others later got the 8jp to work well. Clutching was pretty much figured out by all by the second season and the clutch talk died down considerably. The belts do vary a bit but the compound effects clutching way more than the small variance in belt size if same belt.This was debated in several longgg threads in the viper forum.
