at this point I don't think snow will be an issue. This is the first time in a long time that there is already enough snow to ride on before January.

I see there is 2+ feet all areas north of Lake Vermillion.
If you have not taken in the Arrowhead Corridor Trail from Cook to Kabetogama, that area is really awesome riding. Good distance rides, gas availability is good, and the best section of trail anywhere between Cook and Crane Lake.
The other solid choice would be to stay at/around Lutsen and ride North and South on the NSST.
Can't lose on either choice IMO.

I ran up to Wake field on the 15th 2 yrs ago and turned around and came home.
I unloaded hopped onto the trail burried it to the seat. I was alone, walked to town and paid a guy with a truck and plow to retrieve it. Thats why my backup now has 153" 2 paddle track with a bender turbo and tow strap.
This is not the first time I wished for a shovel. Here is my RTX in about 15' of snow no truck around this time.
It was like the little engine that almost could..................... I wanted to hit that curl you see in the background it was up about 40' and had a 6 to 10 overhang :exc:

Me and a few other Yammies down here will come. Most likely.. I'll be heading up to Babbit, MN later this month for a 3 day ride.
Got it now Tom. Go ahead and Send it to me and I'l edit the post and include it. Send me one for the Early Jan Houghton ride as well. I'm hoping to make it out there for that.
Still planning to ride out of Chisholm. Trail and hotel are right off the highway and easy to find for those not familiar with the area. More over, Mr Sled didn't want to drive any further! I actually ride my sled in from about 12 miles out of town as well. I'm open to suggestions and I wouldn't rule out a bagger/overnighter. However, since everyone isn't able to make it every day, it is convenient to base it from the hotel. The area has a decent selection of trails and "loops" so we could ride 2 or 3 days and not ride the same trails. As I am hosting the ride, I like to stick to trails I am comfortable/familiar with.
If someone else wants to lend a hand, I'm more than willing to expand out of my area. Few things to keep in mind: The larger the group size, generally the slower the ride/ less overall miles. Last year we did 200+ miles in a day, but we only had six sleds, easy to keep track of. Food and fuel availability: not all sleds on the ride were Yamaha's or fuel sipping 4 strokes. Last year we did cut it close between a few locations. Trail conditions: This isn't exactly the snow belt. Last year we squeezed the ride out on the last possible weekend for riding in the area. Sometimes it can be a real crap shoot, and I'd like to be able to scout out the trails the week or preferably a few days before the ride. If conditions are bad, have a couple of alternate routes picked out. Finally, it's really tough to know exactly how many riders will show up till the morning of the ride. Be willing to be flexible with routes depending on group size. I am willing to dump a day of work (Friday) if people want to get an extra day of riding in, but if I am going to do that, I don't want to wind up riding alone.
Fortunately we have a couple of months before we need to start counting heads. I'll get hotel information posted in the next couple of weeks, and if people can tell me their tentative plans by let's say Jan. 2nd. I'll see if I can get a block of rooms reserved at a discounted rate.

also, I'm 20 minutes from the Hotel, and have guest bedroom if someone is worried about hotel cost and have a groomed trail 500 feet away. I also have heated garage to make repairs if needed, though probably not enough tools if Nicko goes rock hunting again..........

The original post was edited with the hotel information included. It is right off the highway in Chisholm and has direct trail access.

I don't know him Yamadog. This ride sounds like a great time! Can we just bring the liability waiver to the ride signed, or does this have to be in to Mr. Sled prior to the ride?
