I'm coaching basketball that weekend, but if there were enough people interested I could take Friday off and come up for the day. Maybe do an off trail day???

Im out, I will be riding in the area but I will be on the Bush Prebeg memorial ride.

Nicko, Snowpunisher and I will be driving up late on Thursday night now, so We're able to ride all day on Friday. I was thinking that a quick ride up to Cook for breakfast at the Montana Cafe would be good, then we can look for some off trail riding. I posted a map to Side Lake over on the smoking side, so I'll post it here. Our cabin is right by Bimbo's... Of course the Montana is just a thought.

The DNR website says the Taconite has an 8" to 12" base, and the snow cover in the area is around 24" to 30" so the rocks should be well hidden.

For Friday I'm thinking of everybody bringing brats or polish to cook over a fire for lunch. If you want go for some off trail riding let me know. I know Nick is better off off-trail than on.

For Friday we can meet at Bimbo's on Side Lake.

If you go through Virginia to get to Chisholm go past Chisholm til you get to Hwy 5. Turn right at Hwy 5. Side Lake is about 15 miles down the road. There are plenty of signs. We'll use the parking lot at Bimbo's right on Side Lake as they have nice big parking lot. If you are going to take Hwy 37 from Hwy 53 and go through Hibbing, go toward Chisholm on 169 and take a left at Hwy 5. The signs to Hwy 5 also say McCarthy Beach State Park. The park is across the lake from Bimbo's. If you're not sure, call my cell. 763-439-5748. -Andy

As of right now - I'm planning to drive up Friday morning. Looks like I'll be by myself as my wife now has a meeting she can't get out of. I can be there about 0930 - 1000ish. Not sure if I'll bring the trailer and an extra sled or just toss mine in the back of the truck.

Everyone, after riding yesterday afternoon and watching the water/slush squish out from the front of my sled, I am concerned about conditions come this weekend. I saw a drastic change in trail conditions from noon to 6:00pm yesterday with the 41 degree temperature, and unfortunatly, the forecast looks similar all week.

I don't want to jump the gun on cancelling, so... Particularly for those of you traveling from further away, when do you need a drop dead answer by? I will make the call no later than Thursday afternoon, but I think some of you are planning on comming up Thursday night, so let me know.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for cold weather!
