Aftermarket clutch weight testing from this weekend

Another great weekend and all I can say is DAMNNNNNN!!!!!!!!! :) Results are in!!!
Thanks to Cannondale, BoostedNytro, Shagman, Murdered137 and a few others that stopped by this weekend....great to see you guys!

Once again, the SW likes a lot of tip weight. Now these setups are in testing phase and notes were sent to both advertisers here on TY. I will not let the cat out of the bag until we have a little test time on snow as the grass is getting us really close, but want to make these the best kits out there.

Started out stock, made 3 passes and then started throwing clutch weight setups at it. The first weight setup was put together by Shagman and had too low of engagement....but the 2nd setup he gave me was spot on with the secondary stock 35° helix and spring! Super low engagement (2,400), unreal pull from bottom to top end carrying the skis the whole way down, 9,170 rpm, clutches very cool and this was with an 8JP belt.

The 2nd weight setup was put together, run after run and finally got a good setup. Engagement very low (2,500-2,600) Arm stretch till I let off and might need a helix....but still testing. My lawn has stripes and all the test paths had their very own so I could measure how the grass was pulled up by each clutch weight setup.

You all would be amazed at the power the SW is putting to the ground stock, but with these aftermarket companies making awesome aftermarket weights......My God! a 50 foot difference from stock to aftermarket setups how the ground is being lifted!!!!! Yes, these kits will be available very soon!

@murdered137 will tell you what he saw when he stopped over.

@boostednytro @shagman can verify this

Timing setup is ready when the rain quits and will have specific data on the improvements.....but right now I see 4 mph improvement in just 300-400 ft. and the sled actually is starting to scare me it's becoming so fast
NOS is getting scared! Music to my ears. When a professional drag racer "sharts" himself, that's a good sign...

Being totally honest....

My SRX has run a high 8 second pass on nitrous and mostly very low 9's every pass, just motor on asphalt, at speeds close to 140mph. It's nothing for me now.....

This SW is scary fast and pulls hard! Maybe the way the surroundings were with trees and skis in the air....but if I were to guess....with hookup, this sled will be in the low 9's on asphalt with clutching, exhaust and Maptuner X from EVP.

*****To all who have a SW or have one coming.....please ride safe out there! I know everyone wants to be the biggest and baddest out there...but this sled has soooo much power (especially with add-ons) that it will be a big change from non-turboed sleds you may currently ride. Even the turbo guys that are messing with this sled are seeing faster speeds, quicker take offs and freight train pull. Just be careful and know your surroundings. This sled has become very popular, the hpr is the most on the market, the speeds are crazy fast......but you need to remember.....you still only have 1 brake rotor and 1 track trying to stop you at these speeds. Be safe! Ride smart! If you are going to run someone....find/check an area where you know you won't hit deer or an ice crack or heave. With that I say... HAPPY TRAILS EVERYONE!!!

Are or have you guys already tested a soft engagement spring?

The springs we are using provide a very soft, low engagement. We are seeing engagements as low as 2,400 and can creep at 2,300 once the primary is engaged.

2700-2900

Which isn't really bad and so much better than the 3300 stock Vipers were getting .

I'm pretty sure my apex came in quite a bit lower with the different spring
Can't wait to see what comes out for springs and maybe a little clutch set up for us guys that will TRY to stay stock this season.
Yes I said TRY

The stock primary spring is very long.... I am using much shorter springs and getting much better grip from the belt... (belt squeeze)

stk is gold red gold ,what's the difference

When it comes to initial and finish rate....that means everything in today's world of clutching. Length, spring dia., amount of coils.....plus the rates all have to match the weights you put in.

I like to use a softer rate spring, as light of a weight but then throw a lot of tip weight for belt squeeze on top end. Little tip I learned from Olav Aaen

quick upshift and no spring bind is always a good thing as is low smooth engagement for trail riding .racing ,low enough to keep traction .

Just curious is most of your testing of different clutch set ups done on your xtx? With different driver size and gears than my rtx are there going to be much difference in start to finish ??

Yes, most setups are done with my XTX.

The great thing about having adjustable weights is that you can change "if need be", but in most cases the clutching should be pretty much spot on. That is where a simple pm or comment can be helpful.

I figure the XTX is kinda like the middle of the road between RTX and mountain sled so there is little adjustment needed to perfect the rpms again "if need be"

This is another reason I do this for you all and hope that with more info from others that purchase the kits thru the advertisers here that I did testing for.....we can help each other out :)

As far as conditions, they will change and clutching may be affected. what may work great one day....may not be the same the next day. This is the ongoing saga to clutching and isn't anybody's fault....it's conditions can be amazing hardpack one day and soft-slushy the next day. But I try to get the kits to perform their best under perfect conditions, this way you are not banging the rev limiter and will be very close on good hardpack. The slushy or soft snow days are just that and will it perform? yes! But rpms may be a little lower. I would rather have that then setup for loose snow or slush....then when you find hardpack you are banging the rev limiter which isn't good and will only upset the person because it's a great day, perfect conditions and the sled (clutch kit) is banging the rev limiter. This is why real world testing is so critical over just dynoing.

And with snow, I may tell people to change how the kit is and add or take away weight on the arms.

Just letting you know I am here for you all....no question is a stupid one. ;)!
