Allan, what happened to that nice Proline skid you picked up last fall?
 

The Proline is stuffed into the 2006 Apex turbo sled that I'm still working on! This is just a stock 2007 Apex RTX!

Looking back at my notes from last season it looks like (with the same 60' time) the narrow track is worth a fair amount of ET and top end!

Last season with Wahl Skid & 10.5 x 121 track:

This season with Pro-Active Skid (stock) & 15 x 121 track:

Track conditions were identical from that pass a year ago to the pass this year so conditions didn't have any effect on the difference seen between narrow track and stock track width!

Also just picked up a Proline skid, narrow track, and skis off of Ebay for the stock Apex! It looks like I'll run the stock skid & wide track until the end of May and then switch it over!

Allen, Nice setup!!! Too rich for my blood at the moment. Thanks again to you and your dad for those wheels and blocks. I have them all installed and will probably be running my first asphalt race this Sunday!!!!!

Sled is done, cooling cart done, and hopefully I'm ready to go. I'll be running stock (No N2O) this weekend. Unfortunately, I'm clutched for the N2O and don't feel much like changing it right now....especially after the 30 hours I put in my sled to get it ready.

So, stock this weekend to get the kinks out...and 50hp or 90hp shot next time....woooo hooo.

Beautiful day at ESTA today. Temps were probably in the low 70s with sun all day. Everyone was surprised how good the traction was, espically this early in the season. Yesterday I finished getting my sled back together and threw some clutching at it. I was very pleased with the results. Also, stoutner came out to the track and made his first pass on his Apex. One run and I knew he was hooked. I'll let him fill in the details on how well he did.


Trials 1, first run since re-assembling the sled with a new (to me) motor. Revs hit 10k then 9500 the rest of the way.

Trials 2, changed the secondary spring. Not sure where the revs were as I hit the wrong button on my VDO.

I was quite impressed with this run. My best previous (all motor) was a 10.61. If I can get my 60 time down to where it should be (1.3s) I'm possibly looking at 10.4s in the 1/4.

Elims 1...dial 10.68. Replay showed revs hit 11k then settled at 10100.

Lost by .05. Everything else looked good, but I think I sat up too much towards the end.

Clutching is spot on, so now it's time for skid adjustments. Gotta get the spinning stopped at the line.
 
Wisconsin International Raceway

Friday night test and tune went real well, but traction was poor. Managed to run a couple 9's on both sleds, and do some fuel changes on the SRX.
Saturday, saw I was points leader by a couple, and went 3 rounds. I will post times tonight.

Note: I was lucky because I was running a first time racer as well. His dial in was 2/100th less than me so it was a pretty even start.

I left him at the line...his reaction was .99 - I did let off at the end and good thing I did because I was only .0141 over my dial in. I did beat him to the finish by about a sled but he broke out by .0990

I had a bit of bad luck on this race. Unfortunately, I was racing a guy with a lot more experience. My reaction time was still weak but his was *** .5031 *** His index was 10.10 and I knew he'd be closing hard. I was about 100 feet from the finish line and still couldn't see him coming. Then, he came flying be me like I was standing still. He caught me at what seemed like 50 feet from the finish and coasted to a win by .0339 ( like a half sled ??? )

If anyone wonders why my et's were so low it was because I was clutched for 85hp of n2o but wasn't running N2O. I was running completely stock. In fact, I found out that I was really clutched for about 125 hp of N2O. My max rpm's were 9500.

Positives: My et's were super consistant. My reaction time got better every run. My sled didn't put me into a wall. And, I had a complete blast!

Lastly, I want to thank all of you guys for your advise. More importantly, I want to thank Allen and Gary Ulmer for loaning me 3 sets of wheels and blocks. And thanks to Corey for showing me the ropes and loaning me all kinds of tools, and generally putting up with all of my questions throughout the day.

P.S. Why didn't anyone tell me that you have to hit the throtte before the green light comes on? :o|

Corey, nice numbers! :Rockon: It must not of taken you long to figure out your clutching! LOL!

Wayne, great job on getting out and just having some fun. Yea, being the fastest is fun, but good close racing is great too! That's the best part about bracket racing, as long as your sled is consistant and you can cut a light it doesn't matter how fast or slow you are!

We got rained out this weekend. We had about 5" of rain in a 6 hour span (most of it in two 30-40 minute spurts of rain) with some wind damage, hail, etc. I spent most of Friday night resetting my suspension and also swapping out the front end shocks as well. I also put on my Hot Tach Pro with engine RPM & jackshaft RPM so I can see exactly what's going on! I had a slight problem with the installation and called Exhaust Gas Technologies on Saturday morning and surprisingly enough they answered the phone and walked me through my setup problem!

Located at the Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wis., the track opens at 5:30 p.m., time trials start 6 p.m. and eliminations begin around 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for spectators and is $55 to enter.

So come enjoy bracket style snowmobile drag racing on asphalt. Payouts for winner, runner and semi finalists.
