Just glad I have the 5 year warranty. My chaincase is getting rebuilt as I type, well waiting for gears that are back ordered until April. I have 4100 miles on the 18 winder and it popped into neutral under power on my last ride of the year. My buddy who has an 18 winder also has had his chaincase rebuilt twice now, once last year and once this year. Now I gotta worry about the drive shaft bearing like so many others.
New one is updated number which you Sidewinder guys would have. Hopefully last longer. One that went actually went tight. So with parts from first and second can make a good spare!Thats weird. I have 10k on one and 5k on another and never had a problem. My buddy has 7k on his without issue.

Drive shafts too? spinning the inner race on the bearings? How about an updated seal or oil tank... now that I would be shocked if they fixed.

Axle bearing on chaincase side? That is more rare since that bearing is open and lubed from case. Was it bad due to metal shavings in it or did it spin on shaft?
Good reason to open these cases up seasonally AT MINIMUM. This will go a long way to keeping them clean, checking top gear bushing, shift fork pucks, and chain tensioner roller screws(should be tack welded IMO) and chain tension.
Dan
It spun on shaft and chewed it up.

Watch how you put that chaincase together, make sure that upper gear doesn’t wobble, I have spacers on both sides of gear, been like that for 2500 miles since so far no problems, change upper gear every year, cheap did same on 2012 1100 only jumped out of gear once in 6000 miles.

2800 miles on my srx and top gear bushing #*$&@ out. Top gear didn’t have the hole drilled through the bushing
Most of the internals are done including the chain case. Everything warranty but waiting on back ordered top gear and reverse pinion apparently.
Yamaha said they are having problems....hopefully they get this figured out. Love the sled but now it’s in the back of your mind when back packing.

This site has been great to head off some of the problems ie: silicone the sight glass, tack the bolts on the chain tensioner and watch the top gear .
The clutch side drive bearing is another pain. Hopping to use loctite on reassembly and that can be put to rest.

I put both the washers on the inside of the top gear and found a half thickness to use on the outside. This way, the gears stay fully meshed.

Are the stock sled's having these issues too or is it just the tuned ones, can't help but wonder if the turbo viper's that were turned up to 240-270 having these problems too, besides the chain case seal, but probably not too many of those out there.

I’m thinking mostly tuned sleds are having problems. Maybe I’m wrong

ALL....Steve is correct. Mine and my buddy's winders are stock. Drive train issues have nothing to do with tunes. Its a poor design and not very reliable.

This says it all! I'm in the same boat for my warranty work as well. My buddy had his chaincase rebuilt in early February and parts were available, I took mine in March 2nd and I have to wait on parts until April. I'm done riding for the season to which i'm ok with on the back ordered parts but if this happened during peak season it would be unacceptable. This also says just how many problems there are with the chain case. Lots of warranty work happening.
