Its simple math, go by percentages. As power goes up 30%, meth should follow closely behind.
Idk....always something to figure out. Wouldn't hurt for someone to bundle a tune package. Drag, trail, etc. Makes the most sense really.
Perhaps, a giant air to air keeping ambient in check. That would certainly cut meth use.

I respect ski doo. But like 'Initial quality reviews', which mean nothing unless you lease or trade every year, time will tell the story on longevity. The 998 has a very long, pretty reliable history. Rotax is a great manufacturer, but like many of the failures in new vehicles made anywhere, where are the parts made? 'Processes' are certified. Inferior stuff can slip through, and make its way to the consumer to find out, all in the interest of time and profit. We shall see. That would really suck if they used that much meth. One would think it would be it would be running terrible consuming that much in 50 miles.

It for sure is not that simple. Temperature (heat soak) is influenced not just by power, but by many external factors (air density, humidity, ambient temperature). You might for instance have the meth kick in on a warmer spring day while not in full throttle. It may not kick in during extreme cold or only be used a little. The example provided at Tug Hill was probably more a byproduct of overall conditions than it was an indicator of normal meth consumption.

Found it……….. so the weather was 41 degrees and doo said its normal to digest alot in anything above freezing. Im still anxious to see range though in the cold. If its 4 times better in the cold that would be acceptable but $25 a gallon ?!?!

I think the biggest downfall with the doo 850 turbo is going to be the meth usage when running hard. Guy had posted about riding in tug hill when they had first recieved snow and he was out of meth by 50 miles. Dealer looked it over and all was good. Contacted brp and they said that was 100% normal when running hard. If this turns out to be the norm or even if its double or triple the consumption that others see its still gonna take the wind out of the sails quick. Going to have to have really good thumb control on a 150-200 mile ride. Im sure in a few weeks there will be super meth on ebay to combat this though.
I have a hard time wrapping my head around an 850T that isn't always an 850T... sometimes its just an 850.. How frustrating will that be, riding hard in a rythm and then suddenly the sled acts like a normal 850 which isn't terrible but its not what you paid for. There will be great days and not great days, same sled.

Earthling, your assessments are as always 100%
So, we need to work on the very simple things that we can control. Or should I say, try to control.
Horsepower, timing, fueling, and to some degree, ambient.
All those parameters can be dealt with, mostly from a laptop, to minimize meth usage.
Everything else is consequential to environment. Nothing we can do?
As we have done since the eighties, we just need to lie to the computer. Lol.

I have a buddy with a GC-MS (Gas chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) I wonder if he would be willing to run some ICE through it to get its exact chemical breakdown. Its likely marked up at least 10x over cost of raw chemicals.

There have been a wide range of reports regarding consumption of ICE. Some are using very little, some are using a lot. As Earthling said, there will be many variables at play. The tank only holds about a liter.
Knowing BRP, they will probably offer a larger tank as an accessory for $199.99.

I built and ran a turbo sled that required Meth injection for decent power production. I installed a gallon tank on it and would run that dry in no time. If I tried to back off on the meth, the dash would flash and it pulled power. It was an old Z1 turbo with a Hijacker on it. Got sick of that sled rather quickly and down the road it went, they guy that bought it loved it, but rode it more like a touring machine than a race sled, so it worked well for him.
Meth injection is a pain in the butt on a snowmobile, if you run it hard it will gobble Meth just like fuel and will be out in no time. If you boost it up and try to make more power, it will require more, its not rocket science. Meth is cheap typically say compared to actual race fuel for octane, but this Rotax "ICE" or meth stuff is not, and of course Doo has that figured out to that you need to run their expensive stuff....
It is my opinion that if you want a more powerful sled, its best to do it with hardware or a more powerful engine, not nitrous, meth or a consumable. Consumables need replenished at a rapid rate if you want to go fast all the time, and tend to be less reliable, not fun to run out at the most inopportune time either. I want it all and I want it all the time....
The Doo looks and acts exactly like I thought it would. Gonna be some quick and fast ones out there with race fuel, so no surprise there, but going to be an expensive machine to run on the trail if you like to go quick and fast all the time, especially if you have to use their proprietary blend of meth.
I'll take our 998's over ANYTHING produced or built to date, modify it a little bit and fix the nagging things about it all day long for me and where I ride. I don't even have a hankering to have a two-stroke turbo, not even the slightest. If offered a chance to ride one I wouldn't. I already know how it's going to ride, handle go and stop, I know what it's going to be, and I know its not for me.
Old saying that an old speed runner (Marlon Englert) used to say back in the day that still holds true today. Power takes money boys, how fast do you want to go?

I suppose one would need 2 sleds as sometimes after a fresh snow, or wind, we wind up breaking trail on our rural farmland trails, and with a winder, just let er rip, and use the power to get through. Seems like the doo would be out of juice shortly in those conditions. Not for me. But it would be fun for a while...I built and ran a turbo sled that required Meth injection for decent power production. I installed a gallon tank on it and would run that dry in no time. Nailed! I think if it came down to it and you wanted to play around on lakes part-time l, events, etc, a two-stroke would be great to build. The comp 850r would seemingly be the perfect base.I suppose one would need 2 sleds as sometimes after a fresh snow, or wind, we wind up breaking trail on our rural farmland trails, and with a winder, just let er rip, and use the power to get through. Seems like the doo would be out of juice shortly in those conditions. Not for me. But it would be fun for a while...
Then use a tuned 998 Turbo as more of a touring sled for big miles.
Just my opinion.
