Early dyno reports (850R)

Procross is or has been one of the best handling sleds to date.
Competition has caught up though and hopefully the catalyst holds up to the hype.
Need all the manufacturers we can get to keep the competition up.

turbo is smaller than poo
2 smokes with stutter are also a concern
Guy shows off at bar or on lake, look at me and this sounds cool! lol
reeds are easy to blow this way on a two stroke
Stud clearance is an issue on doo but poo isn’t much better
Doo has no room to work under the hood and poo is a bit better there
Cat has a lot of tunnel clearance and a lot of under hood room and I’d say a more build able hp liking motor than the other two

858 turbo comes out I’ll have one
The most impressive thing to me is the fact they have a 2 stroke turbo that lives as a consumer sled
Never thought we’d see this
Yes. Thanks to the 998T. Been riding out west for last few years and my Mistress, the Winder, is very lonely holed up in Maine. We have 5 turbo skidoos in the trailer which have been frankly flawless for the years we have had them (riding mountains in Utah and Montana). My Winder shares a bed with a 22 850 Backcountry XRS still in break-in mode, I call her Dusty. Ridden literally only one crappy trip up to Maine and she has more scars then the Winder from over 4 years of use.
Yamaha moved the needle in the sled industry then left. I'm indifferent. The 4-stroke gamble was wrong. I don't even notice the 2 stroke smell riding in groups of 8+. If I ever buy another spring order sled, renting works pretty good til I retire somewhere, I looking at a Catalyst once they turbo it. More likely, I'll buy 2nd hand after 1 year or 2 from someone who spring orders every year.

No one seems interested in my Winder so I'll probably one day mod if further towards backcountry with 2" plus track and 146 CF skid. Those Lynx Shredders weigh about the same and plenty of peeps survived the mountains on them.

Not all of them!
Most will still be on their sidewinders.
eventually the chassis or the owners will age out.

I'm going with the chassis based on my cat experiences.

I don't think any two stroke have duplicated the 70+ pull of the winder.

I'm the opposite. To date, I have still spent more of my riding years on two stroke than a four stroke.
But, I have no desire to ever want another two stroke again. I'm all about the turbo 4 stroke, it's so addictive. I've traded with some riding buds that have 850's and I just want to get right back on my sled.

While I can smash my tcat through a rutted up trail switching IQS to high, I have this nagging feeling in the back of my head I'm wearing out the chassis faster than my 2 stroke.

I can smell 1. If you get behind a couple, then you can really smell them. I ride with 50-50 4 strokes and two strokes in our group.
I am not anti-2 stroke and have owned my fair share and probably will again but to say they don't smell is something I can't agree with

Anyone who has been sledding for any length of time has obviously got a lot of hours on a two stroke. I think this meth injected 850 turbo is very cool. If I was doing different riding then I do I would probably get one but the reality is I am a high mileage performance oriented trail rider and nothing fits that niche like a four stroke turbo.
When I was 30 years younger I would have only wanted this 850R Turbo.

True. When I was young I liked noisy, lots of smoke and wheelies.
Now I'm older and like quiet, silky smooth massive power, skis on the ground.

XRS ice $24.00gal.
XPS oil $70.00gal.
Total...$100. tax, whatever.
Round numbers addition cost to ride one for the day....$25.
Having spent years at team yellow and soaking in info on ice. A quart a day of each is a basic Appx. Number.
Yes, guys..I know, some ride harder & some don't. Yes some have bigger days and some won't .
Cost me $50. Every day for fuel. 50% increase cost to ride the 850r vs my sidewinder.
Hmmm...$25 dinero every day. You can do the math on how much you ride individually. That number can add up fast.
20 days of riding = $1,000. Worth it, you decide.

I can sure smell them stinky sleds when coming upon them! I think it surprise them too when us "old guys" blow past them on the heavy four-strokes... LOL! They're hanging off the sides in every corner ripping it up hard, front end off the ground on the straights with their superior lightweight two-strokes and we rail right on past them when safe to do so of course... HaHaHa, I love it!

Tell me again how great those lightweight two-strokes are and how they kill the heavy four-strokes in tight trails.... Overpriced F'n throwway kids toys is all they are. Dont miss them one bit, not in the least.

I rode behind two 850 Gen5s last year all day long and I was shocked never once smelled the two stroke oil. The Polaris Boost on the other hand is one stinky SOB.

Will be interesting in your feedback. There are a lot of used Lynxs on the market but it looks to me like a pretty decent sled at least for the conditions around here.

I will be sure to share my feelings if we ever get snow. The 10 day does not look favorable here.
