Excell Cold Air Intake and Exhaust

Also, if you're running the small little windshield that comes on these sleds, there's some MPH to be gained right there. On our 2014 SR Viper LTX base model (would be like a 2015 SR Viper LTX DX) if I sit how I would normally ride versus tucking myself tightly behind the windshield, I'd see a 4 mph gain in top end!

The tight wind on the secondary is not any more pounds than the stock secondary spring, checked using a fish scale. RPM needs to be 8750 to 9100 rpm depending on conditions. Hard pack it will spin more RPM than in loose snow conditions.

With over 300 + SR Viper clutch kits out on the snow, 99% have been happy. Those who had any questions or concerns I have helped and been happy to answer any and all questions. Your Ulmer Racing setup was modified by you, which is fine, anyone can make adjustments, I will gladly help out anyone who is not comfortable with making adjustments on their own. I posted a desired setup above, I have not tested it directly with the Excell intake & muffler, but have tested it on 3 other exhaust setups and our own intake kit.

Allen I dealt with your clutch setup exactly as you specified last year with a absolutely stock sled. 8500-8750 rpm was what it pulled. When I called because my sled was a turd with your setup your advice was to look for something wrong with my engine. Keep in mind I ran the small stock windshield all last year not that it should matter.

Then out of the blue on here I heard you added a new secondary spring to eliminate binding of stock pink spring. So I bought that thinking wonderful another problem solved. Wondered why I wasnt informed of this spring change when you knew I had issues with your kit. First chance I got to do a decent full throttle run and all I got was no better than a stock 7000 cat. Add power mods and all I got was tons of belt dust from the 8DN and a secondary that looked like a torch was run on it near bottom. A 8DN! Think about that.

Maybe like has been said I dont need 100mph. Maybe I am that 1% that is a unhappy customer. But maybe I am trying to help and have been for the last year. Based on complaints and PM's from others if you sold 300+ kits there is no where near 99% happy people or they just want something I dont. I can live with that. Its not my intention to tell anyone how their sled should be. I have every intention of making this sled a consistent 100mph sled with great drivability that is also fun. Not quite there yet I am hoping your tune and possibly your ignition will help get me there. But it will only be with whats left of your clutch kit that works for me. I work hard for my $ and paid full price for a kit that did not work. I advise anyone who has the kit to try the setup I posted in the sticky in facts section. It will be much better performing and recoup some of your costs. If not call Ulmers for advice since I am way past using anything left of his kit other than the helix. Other option is to just ditch it and run the COC setup which works best in MY OPINION.

Our kit is super smooth, very drivable at slow speeds, and works great in the trail, just as it was designed to do. I'm sorry to hear you're not satisfied with your kit. I have learned that you will never have a 100% satisfaction rate, unfortunately it is a part of life. Maybe a shallower angle helix would've worked better in your kit? I am not certain if it would've or not. Everyone works hard for their cash, if you think that's any different here, I think you're wrongly mistaken. Ask anyone who has been to my shop for an installation or tune up, I think they'll tell you that I don't have any of the fanciest things and work very hard for what I do have.

I know you do Allen. I respect that and you will always have a customer with me. Just need to figure this out. I will try anything but like you I dont have unlimited time or $ to do this. I am all ears.

Definitly. But I still had fun with stock clutching. Was just very inconsistant and only 500 mi on belt before it started to go away.

In quest for that goal of consistent 100mph runs I installed the Excell system. And a Ulmer Tuned PCV. I would rate install as a 5 on difficulty scale of 10. Read and reread the instructions especially airbox mod. They have very nice instructions included.

While the can mounting system looks kinda subpar it actually is very solid yet will allow flex of the sled. I have found straps around entire can to be way stronger than tabs welded on long term. Stainless and machined aluminum. Very nice welds except at pipe bend. Repackable. Perfect.

Airbox snorkel is no cheap plastic rigged piece. It is actually some type of rubber. It is molded to shape. I know what a mold for this costs to make and it is very impressive that excell would invest this kind of $ into making something for us. Impressive and comforting surprise.

Took it in ditch and it was noticeably louder than stock. I expected that. Banging rev limiter right away launch and not enough ditch to do top end run. I then added 3G to tips and had to go to work. Left for Norway,MI where there is snow at 1:30 sat same day so no more testing time. Unloaded and road in search of supper. Still hitting rev limiter slightly at launch and hard at about 88mph. Had a lot of fun and little ride for supper turned into almost 100mi! Making excuses but I slept like a baby. By time I got up all I had time for was adding 6grams to mid. Launch is almost perfect but still banging rev limiter but now at about 94mph. Sunday morning trails were still not groomed and it just wasn't safe to hold it tight for long. Did not find groomed trail till dark so stay tuned for final clutching and speed but it definitely has gained power since I had perfect clutching before. The exhaust seemed to get quieter as I rode. I payed attention and on groomed grade all I could hear was track howling by end of day. I never once heard the intake! This system may be ok even for me and I demand a exhaust that won't piss people off. We will see. Cold air intake plain and simple works. While riding about highest air temp I saw was 37deg f. Normally I am 70 or higher even at - 30 deg F.
Very happy and Excell did a great job. I can't wait to get the clutching right. I will post final clutching in clutch setup sticky.

Following up off of this post. We did about 300 miles this weekend on the hill. Real cold, and a lot of flat trails early on. I was constantly seeing 96-98 MPH with this set up. It is a completely different sled in the Mid and top range and the sound is awesome. Fit and finish are exceptional. You cant go wrong. looking forward to my next trip.

All your clutching is based on Excell, correct?

Well I know a lot of guys are frustrated with these machines. I was out of my mind last year with all the problems. I know its not apples to apples cause of my turbo BUT! After 1000's of $$$ with Hauck and 9#'s of boost my AFR #'s were all over the place, the clutching was so far off that the rev limiter banged more than a rock drummer and 104 mph with a 220 ish hp sled was all she had in her.

After letting Allen have mine for a couple of weeks this summer I have a sled that is spot on and seeing 13#'s of boost with only a minor ping of the limiter when I am spinning the track in loose snow. I have seen 109 speedometer 107 gps several times with more to go but ran out of realestate and clean undies cause it gets there so fast.

I just think that this stock sled is so inconsistent (clutches) that some of the after market packages are working in some cases and not in others.
