My valve was stuck from being "gummy" in the summer. I had a summer leak. Anything can cause this valve to get stuck & blow out the oil seal.
Also the first time i took my air cleaner off, there was a puddle of oil in the tube like ACTIONJACK's picture.
So no matter what, i don't want the valve. I'll take my chance on a 5/8ths hose.
Yep but it' been proven that the hose freezes so the big loop of hose is not fail proof, and possibly actually worse for freezing. Not arguing the sludge issue is not good.

I'm thinking you may have a point. I had hoped the big loop hose without the valve would be the fix of all fixes but now guys are having failures with it. Maybe the stock set up with a T and water trap before the intake would be a better solution?Yep but it' been proven that the hose freezes so the big loop of hose is not fail proof, and possibly actually worse for freezing. This could be dangerous for fire!I've been following the post from the beginning. I had the rollover valve freeze at 700km after 3 days of riding sub -25C days. Had it resealed by the dealer and did the rollover bipass mod see pics. After 3 days of riding 1500km in close to -40C before adding windchill up in Hearst I pulled it apart today and found oil all over including the hose. The hose clamp was tight and no tears in the 5/8 hose. I called a buddy who rode the same weekend and did the same mod and he's got oil too. Possible solutions - Am I looking at rerouting the hose as it might be restricted by the side panel and adding the additional slit I'm reading about? I thought I'd be done with this by now. But the story continues. [emoji23]

You could be right but that doesn't bother me as long as it burns to the ground and there isn't much left. This could be dangerous for fire!

Did you discover where it was coming from?
I assume the clamp is tight... other than that, where can it possibly come from?

No idea unless the hose froze up and forced it out the connectionDid you discover where it was coming from?

Not sure why all you guys are wrapping the heater hose. Its made for hot temps.(its not vinyl hose) You gotta remember the heat shield is a shield, its not the muffler.
My heater hose gets nice and pliable when engine bay is hot, you have alot more chance of the vapors icing if you wrap it.
It will only have the chance to ice inside hose when engine is stopped(overnight/morning), it will obviously thaw when engine bay is warmed, but there is a time period when you could have ice inside and that may be worse if minus 40. In normal temps even down to minus 25c mine has NEVER froze solid....I tested mine all weekend, near 600kms in deep snow and the new angled cut works well, not even close to freezing the end that hangs down. The slit I cut into it would allow a tad of blowout when pressure is built.
Best thing you guys can do running in minus 30 to minus 40 temps is put your hand under hose when you first start engine, as I always do this....when all is cold that is when ice would occur, but mine always is blowing vapor when i start mine.

You make a lot of sense there. How many of us just hop on and take off without a good once over in the morning. It’s a good habit to get into. Not sure why all you guys are wrapping the heater hose. I just went out to re-calibrate my O2 sensor and noticed my heater hose is literally "sweating" oil out of it. At first I thought it was water condensation but it is not water. It is absolutely oil on the outside of the hose! Slippery engine oil.
I figured it would be fine being made by Gates hose. I bet some of these cheaper hoses are leaking oil thru them and that's why the oil coming from what seems the hose.
Its obvious to me now that heater hose is not made for oil. I'm putting my clear hose back on for the time being. At least it does not "sweat" oil from it.

Mike, you are right again!
Tubing designed for gas, oil and vapor will be required. This explaines why some are seeing oil leaking when the clamp is tight on the tank...

The hose I used is 5/8 silicone heater hose from the trucking repare shop. It's flexible and holds shape.

I wondered about using heater hose for petroleum. My son installed this, possibly from NAPA....

I think everyone is putting two big hose there is no great pressure by using big hose you just creating more room for condensation and oil vapour to build
