The plate is used on stock clutch for the 3 adjustment bolts to hit. They would dig into aluminum so they put steel plate in there to minimize wear. When you add the OSP belt adjuster it takes place of the 3 stock bolts and the 3 bolts MUST be removed for full adjustment. Therefore the plate no longer comes in contact with the 3 bolts because they are gone. Here is the pic again of plate I removed. You can see where the bolts which are always removed with kit rub on it.

thanks everyone we are on our 3rd batch... , we also have these for nytro. and soon for apex
Jim, After installing the tool i noticed that the belt doesn't ride at the top of the secondary it looks to be 1/4" below the top of the secondary, as my sled only has 1000 miles on it I was told to install a new belt but it rides 1/4" below the top of the secondary. I also removed the 3 bolt and washers from the backside of the clutch before installing your tool. Any thoughts why it doesn't ride at the top of the secondary?

Check it with belt only on secondary.

Found another benefit to the adjuster. If you turn it all the way in and you are using the 8dn you can just slide belt right off. Not enough for 8jp or gates version. One more point for adjuster and 8dn. With the Ulmer spring in 6-1 and 8jp its a real bugger getting belt on.

If the threads were 1/4-1/2" deeper it would probably do it.

Jim, I followed your suggestion to measure the belt height on the secondary by only having the belt on the secondary alone but then you must remember what you turned the collar distance from the end of the tool as you then need to open the secondary to reinstall the belt back on the primary clutch which seems counter productive to using the tool in the first place. My other issue that I'm having with the tool is the collar only turns in about a 1/4" before it binds up and the clutch doesn't open enough to remove or install the belt easily, yet there is plenty of threads left on the tool and more then enough secondary to open so the belt can be removed or installed. With the limited hand access space on the Viper clutch a tool such as yours or other manufactures of clutch opening tools is a must to service belts trail side in cold weather...any help on this? Or am I doing something wrong when trying to open the secondary?
