Pioneer is now selling the "clutching on the cheap" kit

stingray, does this setup raise or lower the clutch engagement speed? i feel as tho stock is too high already. its like riding my nytro with the parking brake left on...

Lowers it, no need for a high torque engine to rev at take off in my opinion.

Agree...it lowers the rpm to 2,700-2,800. Very smooth, low engagement.....this is one of the reasons why the COTC kit is a hit! You can load/unload a trailer and not be jumpy or spin the track.

Ever have that time where you are at a gas station and you just want to pull ahead 2 feet easliy? One guy told me he wanted to move 2 feet and because of the high rev engagement it would move 20 feet. He is very happy with his COTC kit now and the best part is when you are off-trail, this low engagement allows you to crawl up on top of the deep snow instead of engaging high and digging a hole.

Would that helix or the factory helix be better for low elevation mountain sleds ( stock 153 ). Fred

If you are elevation under 1,500 ft. the stock 43 helix works well cause you are probably going to be riding soft snow. But I had the stock 43 helix in mine and still saw 96 on a snow covered road with a 153" 2.25" Power Claw track.

Wondering about the 8FP weights? The low engagement will make you smile in the deep stuff :)

going to try an order a setup today, i am very unhappy with the vipers clutching, and would love it to be like my nytro xtx. that machine had the best clutching IMO.
i asked a very knowledgable dealer about trying to match the nytro and he was like, why do you want it to be like a nytro? its a viper. my answer was because i liked the way the nytro engaged and pulled, and i feel like i am going to brick this engine sooner because im over revving it. it just dont feel right. i never wanted to clutch the nytro, and in fact a buddy clutched his, and i couldnt stand it!

I am running the COTC kit and am happy with it, except still no top end. It will run 104mph on a hard surface, but on a hard groomed trail it will only pull 92-94 at best. Rpm is at 8850 to 9000. I was wondering if these sleds have a snow evacuation problem in the tunnel area that slows them down. as it seems the Viper's with the longer tunnels and bigger lug tracks are faster on top? My sled is a LTX DX with a 8dn belt, air box mod pcv module and a Hindle header, with Ulmer's overdrive clutches. I am tired of Vectors ltx's driving by me.

Check out Studroes & cannondale's posts about track tension..... Might be that these sleds suspensions are sucking mph

My track has two extra wheel kits. forth wheel kit , track tension is good and it spins easily by hand.

hmmmmm.... the snow evacuation could possibly be happening

Nice 104mph on hard surface ;)! But you should be hitting 100 on groomed hard pack.

Now, one thing I see you and Cannondale have is the PC5, Cannondale does not have the screen for easy adjustment like I have and since I had the re-flash, my sled was richer on bottom end and midrange from before. My AFR readings are 13.2 at idle, 13.0-13.1 part throttle or 30-50mph and 12.1 wide open with my autotune. My adjustments are -7 at low, -8 mid and -3 on top end. They were plus numbers before the re-flash. I'm just learning the PC5 so I just need to hook it up to a laptop to see where you guys with the re-flash and the new 15's with PC5's can adjust to. Yours and Cannondale's sleds are almost exact.

How many miles on your sled? These Vipers really wake up after about 300 miles or so. From 0 to about 150 miles they are not very impressive while breaking in.

Almost 500 miles on my sled now.

#1 I have yet to see any viper hit over 100mph in loose trail conditions. Never. No matter the sled type. Unless it is Turbo.

Will be doing some testing this weekend on River. Track tension will be revisited and planning to disconnect the PCV. Guys can I just disconnect pcv ground for this test?
