Tomorrow I´ll be going to my annual snowmobile ride with my friends. It´s 11h year with the same group.
Last year´s adventure -->
http://www.vmax4.com/vbulletin/showthre ... trip-part-´09
This year we´ll be riding in north-east Finland (again). Our mileage will depend about how the conditions will be. Eastertime we had +10c temps and the snow got really wet and heavy. Now we have some freezing temps at night, but I hope it will be enough to keep the trails rideable. Deep , wet and heavy snow is not the ideal for long day rides...
Some maps and links about where we a heading. Most of the links are finnish. sorry about that.

First day I´ll ride to meet a friend who is coming from Ivalo. We´ll probably meet at Vuotso and fuel up. Then we ride back towards Sodankylä where I live just to turn to Savukoski where we´ll spent the first night at Samperin Savotta Hotel.
Day 2 will begin when rest of our group will arrive. Then we will head towards Salla and Sallatunturi skiresort. From there we will head toward north and arrive fo the night at Naruska. There we will be 2 nights at Tunsan Tunturilomat.
Days 3-4 will be riding in that area and the ride back home. We´ll probably ride at Kemihaara and Tulppio area too.
All of this should add up to few hundred - 1000 km´s.

Yesterday I came back from the adventure. Our longest and toughest rie yet. we had some great time, again! 824 km´s total.
DAY 1 from Sodankylä - Vuotso - Lokka - Tanhua to Savukoski. 278 km´s of ungroomed forestrails.
Not the best weather, but still great riding in soft spring snow. My saddlepack zipper came loose and I lost some of my stuff on the way Vuotso in the morning. Luckily we found almost all of them. only one small pack of coldsmoked moosemeat went MIA.
Pics:
I´m arriving to Vuotso over the snowmobile bridge.
Me on my warrior 144
Having a break near Lokka. No traffic at all. We saw only one group of sledders last weekend.
Small rivers and lakes were pretty much like this.
Hotel Samperin Savotta at Savukoski. Here we stayed the first night.

DAY 3.
109 km´s of riding in Tuntsa area.
We got word that there were no more fuel at Tulppio, so we had to cancel our plans of riding there and back from Tuntsa. So we decided to ride to near by fjall of Sorsatunturi. Weather was humid and foggy, but still we enjoyed our stay there.
We stopped at vaarinkehuma rental cottage before climbing up to the Sorsatunri top. We have spent 2 of ours 11 annual sledding trips here.
Lots of hardpack snow on the front yard of the cottage.

DAY 4
Riding back home from Tuntsa. 212 km´s of really soft trails.
Many of the rivers were now free of ice. luckily most often had bridges over them.
Having a break.
Crossing gravel roads.
We encountered a part of steep crossing over a local fjall called Oratunturi. We spent almost 2 hrs in 1km stage of the trail...
Finally we made it nd the view was great.
mileage : 824 km
total mileage : 1646 km

We did some testing last weekend for the up coming annual drag race of our club. I think we found a setup for my sled to be competitive there against 800 cc 2-strokes. We managed to get 0,5 secs off in our 200m time during that day.
Race will be run up-hill on a skislope.

Well, we had annual race on saturday. Not too much success for us. I ran the 180 meter (under 1/8 mile) race in 8,4 sec / 117 kmh. I spun the track wildly LOL Just a tenth faster than my brother in his 600 XRS. My friends Nytro XTX ran it 8,1 sec what was amazing since it´s all stock. It did beat lot of new 800 cc 2-strokes. I guess it had the ideal conditions hp/tracktion wise. I over powered the track pretty good.
In the elimination race we were picked out almost instantly when we had to race against SnoPro open mod Cat´s or 800R X Backcoutry Doo´s. They get off the line really fast. Especially when the faster time can choose the line from the 2. So we were left with the slower line.
I had 1g taken off from the weights, secondary at 70 and 22/39 gearing with the 144 1,5 track. Rpm`s were dead on at 10 300 - 10 500. In testing it ran over 0,5 sec faster than stock in 1/8 mile. But still not fast enough for the same hp 2-strokes.
Anyway, we had great time. Even with the snowy / windy conditÃons.
mileage : 8 km

I was out working today. Awesome weather and snow. Really go anywhere conditions.
I noticed that army had been there too. BV tracks where everywhere.
I also noticed that one of the left side rail re-enforcement plates where cracked. MONO does suck IMO. I use my sled really gently, without any mogul jumping, and this is what I get. Bad design.

Great ride buddy and great pics.
Sorry to see you have cracked the mono, they all do, it's only a matter of time. Take it apart, weld it and reinforce it in the weak spots and it will live.

I organized once again a icefishing day for our office. We also invited all our contractors and their staff too. I went to the pond on my sled since it was only 17 km´s away.
Great day with warm sunshine and decent fish catch too.
In the morning temps were way below zero, - 8c actually. Snow was frozen rock hard and I had trouble getting enough snow to the heat exchangers. First time on my sled. Temp ligh came on twice on the way. I stopped to get some snow on the boards to cool it down.
We had quite good gathering. Over 60 people showed up to fish for 3 hours. I also had organized lunch, coffee etc. all the works there too.
On my way back I noticed on the trail side where trail goes over a small river in the army area, that a hawk had killed and eaten a small gamebird. That is a clear sign of summer.
Rivers are slowly getting free of ice. So my trails are soon to be cut off... Too bad since we have still great snow. I just might have to load my sled to my trailer and go that way to the nearest trail. But I prefer to go riding from my backyard.
