Just spoke with the distributor in Winnipeg - he suggested the 75 watt unit (pad size is 2"x3") if you wanted more heat go for 125 watt (pad size 2.25"x3"). Trick is the surface needs to be flat, no textured surface or curves). I expect we have a surface that size on bottom of oil pan but I'm not 100% certain).

I changed my order and went with a 250 watt 3.75" x 4.25" pad

Mine are usually in an enclosed trailer....but last year I purchased a sled deck and going to use that more often, so I am thinking about this myself.

The battery is usually the item that will not turn the sled over as the engine in the SW is a dry sump which means there isn't really a ton of oil in the crankcase. Oil tank heater and battery warmer would be ideal in really nasty cold.

Yamaha used to offer a heating pad for the battery, which is where the issue would be on cold mornings.
The battery is your biggest concern not the heating of the oil.

And even my Apex started last year a -35 didn't need a boost
I'm concerned and oil being really think and possibly hurting the engine and or turbo

Made a huge diff on my Apex over the yrs (used the Yamaha available inline rad heater) at - 35C the battery has consistently started the 4 cylinder whereas my buddies machines would not start.

I use a Kat's heater on my truck oil pan, it works really well, they make a small adhesive heating pad that would probably work well on the oil tank. Wal-mart sells them for $20. There should be a spot to mount a 1x5" pad somewhere on the sidewinder.

Installed my oil tank heater - located at bottom of back side (next to muffler). Seems to work well - will certainly keep oil warm and heat does get transferred to bottom of motor. That said I did notice there is potentially a spot for an in line rad heater (had I know I would of tried that). If you remove the access panel to get at oil filter at bottom of the sled you will see the spot - it's tight but I think it will work. The in line heater will do a better job of keeping the motor warm on those - 30C mornings.

Any pics? Just curious what and where you put it and what it looks like? Seem like it will stay affixed for the long haul?
