I already have. They laughed!
Seriously Kviper is correct. I agree but not as seat of pants of a difference as this Viper is. It literally becomes as boring as the Phazer at top end. That is a problem and it seems to me many agree. Many will be happy. But I bought this sled because I could not have that top end in a Phazer. No other reason.

Has anybody considered the thought that yamaha has the viper slightly detuned on purpose via the ecu? If this sled can keep up with an apex or very close to it, why would you buy the apex?

Yes I believe that it is detuned out of fear of ripping the chassis/belts to pieces prematurely. Not to avoid beating a Apex. At least not stock.Nytro needed mods to come close to a Apex. Some never did. I dont believe it is ECU since the PowerCommander should be able to overcome that especially with ignition Module. Not seeing that yet.

Sxrracer I have though of that because.
Engine has been proven
Clutching not helping to much
Track/ suspension same speed( mostly ) all variations
Belt little difference
Gearing little difference
Not much left programming?
The only common to all sleds is chassis

I thought that myself and was leary building mine to the point I have, BUT... after 1 -1/2 seasons and now running 13#'s of boost it has proven to be very reliable on the mechanical parts of the sled. Stupid things like reverse actuator motors, hand warmers, dash pod have gone out but the running gear shows no sign of letting go. After Ulmer set it back up I have over 700 miles on the 8jp belt (used to average 150) and just changed to an 8dn at the drags last weekend due to the belt finally slipping only at full shift out. I was worried when it would only go to 100 and fall flat on its face. Changed the belt and 111 no problem.

I agree so Yamaha and Cat should unleash the beast!
Yamadog you should be seeing 120mph or more out of your sled. Maybe that leash is even on a Turbo!

He won't run 120 because he's setup for 116ish mph and that's all his gearing will support. A true 120 mph sled on average snow will take big power, likely 270 + hp at full trail ride height!
I have many items lined up for the engine dyno this spring, various headers, mufflers, intakes, Power Commander, Ignition Module, etc. One of my tests will be simply swapping from Viper wiring & ECU to FX Nytro wiring & ECU, no other changes. It will be interesting to see if there is any power difference or "characteristic" differences in the power curve.

That will be interesting..just to see. I'm sure the PC w/ignition mod can make them equal but who knows...
I still think it's more to do with the chassis and ride height than anything else....since even the turbo cat takes an extra 15-20hp to equal the apex.
Awesome if its just gearing. I believe ya. Just think that at 116 a Cat Turbo is going to run him down at any distance of a 1000ft or so. I have seen Turbo Cats at 120mph on radar. Just studs. No mods. I personally just did 120mph on GPS on a Turbo Nytro this past weekend. I hope you do find the Power Allen you know I am in on whatever it takes.

I saw a turbo viper run 131 mph last weekend on radar, never got talking to him though, he was loading up as I showed up... All I found out he was running the mpi kit, not sure of any more details... I really wanted to get talking to him!

If it's the guy people were saying it was he's fairly local, apparently wasn't his machine was his buddies he was setting up for him... Again I cannot verify this, all I can verify for sure is that he did indeed run 131, and it was boosted with the mpi kit from what I was told
I wonder the gearing?

I really wish he had of stuck around, I literally showed up, he was doing his last run, ran the 131, then I ran a few times, adjusted some stuff and he had left in the meantime, got talking to some buddies and they told me who they thought it was... Good news is if it is that guy, gf's dad is buddies with him and I'll be able to find out... Just havnt had the chance to talk with him as I'm in North Dakota for a week for training... When I get back this weekend I'll try and get some more info and post back!
