Question, is this an issue with every year sr viper or? Reason I am asking is I have a 2015, and I am not seeing these issues. Thanks Charlie
You maybe dont have the latest flash. So all you need to worry about is a slightly rough idle and a kickback that can break your starter, idler gear,Stator and Flywheel along with pieces of aforementioned getting in your oil pan and making there way to rest of engine.

You have 15 flash more than likely. That had other issues biggest was Starter kickback. Listen to your engine idle also. Compare it to a Nytro or Sidewinder. Or maybe yours is good. I dont know. Enjoy it if you choose but stick to one thread instead of me answering questions all over please. I will combine these threads.

Hmmmm, ok , no back fires those far at all, does not really even idle bad, I will check to see what flash I am on.

Sounds like with such a wide spread problem lemon law would apply...

Just remember if you have your sled flashed to the 16 flash you can NEVER go back. It is permanent but I recommend it even with its issues since a Broken starter gear is a much more serious issue and Yamaha also recommends it.

Got a hold of dealer yesterday, and there is a ECU Flash that came out about a month after my purchase in Dec 2016, that I do not have applied to my machine, he recommended I get it ... , I am way to far from him to take it there , so I am heading to a Dealer in Durango, Co over Xmas break to get it taken care of, praying I dont have any issues afterwards... doing 4th wheel kit too.

The interesting/upsetting thing ,I never got contacted by Dealer or Yamaha about it ...

This was on the Viper Facebook page...any news on a Yamaha one?

Nope. Yamaha dealers have not been notified YET. Man I hope this is the one.
I hope this is the one as well. Initially, my engine was fighting the starter suggesting advanced ignition timing. Now it backfires out the exhaust which suggests late ignition timing as it has to be firing on a partially open exhaust valve. Maybe they've found a middle point that works.

That bulletin is actually is a good thing.
It’s proves that there previous updates have not corrected the issues that have plagued the viper from day one.
In there WAR ROOM, they know there #*$&@ is cooked if they don’t do the right thing and fix this problem.
They need the viper to start like a vector/apex to get people back on board. Many people jumping ship.
Be very curious to know how the 19 viper acts this upcoming season.

Mine isnt ready to even go on a trailer but MtCooler is close to ready and like he said regarding the last flash and worrying about getting another new one. "How can they screw it up any more than it is already?" So true. Sled stalling for no reason is about as bad as it gets. He also reminded me of the backfire I had. Our whole group lost some hearing that day. I will be flashing mine ASAP.

I just contacted my local artic cat dealer in Ontario. They where aware of the bulletin, but the update wasn’t available to them yet. I was hoping to be the guinea pig, although my 2016 7000 starts a lot better than what my 2014 viper did.

Yep. That is hilarious. We didn’t have any issues with the latest flash except the sometimes two attempts during a cold start, but I will definitely get the newest.

We have 4 Vipers in our group (2-14's and 2-16's)...not one of them has ever been flashed....afraid too! Just the occasional 2 cranks to start. I will be watching this latest flash (when Yami releases it) and it finally fixes the starting, kick backs, idle and stalling issues that have plagued many. If and when this latest flash is put to the test and results show promising gains then and only then will I update the ECU. Until then if its not broke......
