Makes total sense thanks for that!Remember your going to want to keep an eye on this every season for sure. That green Loctite makes it difficult to remove the Caliper.

I’m getting a axel repaired also make sure he machines the shaft first to get rid of bad material then weld it up.Update on this, dealer wasn't willing to do anything unless I brought them the whole sled. Ain't gonna happen, so I brought it to my machine shop and he's going to weld and machine it to fit a new bearing. Once I get it finished I will post pics and share details in case anyone else local needs it done.
Same deal for my friend dealer did nothing for him.

Yeah I'm sure he was going to do that but will mention just in case, thanks.

Attached YouTube video shows the best way to repair a shaft that is worn down, IMO. I know many welding shops can't do it I think this is the right way to do it - spray welding.

Might as well buy a Cat,
yamaha’s warranty is becoming useless.
How in the heck is this not a manufacturing defect?
You must have abused your machine!

I’m so sick of the warranty a$$ kiss game.
Fu€£ it I’ll just fix it myself, the frustration level with being ripped off is just not worth it!

Here is what ya do...
Go back to the dealer on a Saturday when it’s busy.
Walk around on the showroom floor looking at products.
When they come out tell them your interested in the most expensive model (probably a side by side) that’s out there, chit chat.
Ask him if the drivetrain is covered under warranty and if a bearing fails, is it covered?
(You know his answer!) let him dig a hole!
Then say that’s funny because that’s not what happened with my snowmobile. Keep it going, act very interested, test ride possibly?
Then ya know play that fiddle!

It IS a design defect and the sled makers get away with not calling it one because they don't have anyone to answer to short term. Once enough customers move to another brand, then, and only then they MIGHT think about fixing a defect like this. That can take many years if at all.
The almighty buck still drives them all, never mind how many customers they alienate or p*#@ off.
Just makes me shake my head. Terrible way to treat customers who paid a ton of $$ for a sled that should be the best money can buy!!

Didn’t used to be that way. It’s a dealer willing to fight for it, some have had them warrantied

In my case, if I would have brought them the sled and said "I think the shaft spun in the bearing, pls check it" they would have covered it. But I don't roll like that, I am gonna work on it myself so I guess no warranty, thankfully was just 1 yr which is basically up very soon.
My machinist will be tig welding, he doesn't have spray welding.

I’m sure he knows, but remind him not to overheat the shaft during the welding process. Take time between welds and maybe blow compressed air on it, no water. That shaft is most certainly alloy steel, and you don’t want it warped or brittle.

I think it has a lot to do with the dealer them selves, a lot of them won't try and warranty parts if they can't charge for the labor. I think the dealers should be able to charge Yamaha for parts and labor even though they are not doing the work. There is to many of us out there that do are own work and won't take machine to the dealer(myself included)this is why so many dealers use the excuse saying they never had or here of certain problems. There is ways the dealer can work around this stuff but many refuse to do it. That's why when you find a good dealer stick with them even tho they may be out of your way. I drive a hour one way to a dealer that I know will treat me right even tho there are several others closer.

Yes, that's a good point. When I had to replace the head on my 998, I did the work myself and my dealer got all the parts warrantied (new head, gaskets, head bolts (which he got to keep cuz I used ARP head studs), valve seals (all valves were transferred to new head)). He also got paid for all the labor he didn't have to do. I guess this shows that a good dealer can work the system to their favor if they're willing.
I had to eat the labor to move all the valves, check valve seal in new head, and re-shim valve clearance as well as removing and reinstalling the head onto the engine which is not a simple afternoon job.
