upper gear bushing

SB,
Just an FYI that bronze bushing your using is the oilite bushing, it’s much softer than the 660 bearing. The 660 is much denser material. I just see no need to run an oilite bearing in a lubricated chain case.
I agree! Hope we 'chose wisely'!
Years ago I made an oilite one for my 73 skiroule with their 'new' centryx clutch, still the 4 finger/ramp style, but the fiber bushing wore out. The oilite on the clutch shaft actually got warm enough to release some of the lube, and it lasted for years til I sold it. Hopefully whatever is destroying the bushings as in misalignment, isn't a problem on this one. I always ran my chains on the looser side, and didn't see any huge problems with the junky oem bushing. The worst was the aluminum in the oil from the loose tensioner screws...both...the inner one rubbing the case!!

A little aluminum won’t hurt anything really, actually it’s Magnesium, but either way it’s so soft it won’t hurt anything. Yea those oilite bushings work awsome In clutches, I have some custom ones made up for the yamaha clutches.

I know I probably stand alone here, but I've got 1300 mi. so far on the toughmet 3 bushing I installed this year with no signs of trouble.
Original OEM bushing 1500 mi. had .008 taper.
Currently: toughmet3 upper bushing, reused factory chain&gears, 16 oz. Amsoil, 1.25 loose,
270Hp. I plan to do a visual check of bushing soon.

I'm still waiting for a Millenial (not an old fart like me,lol) to install a microcamera in the chain case or at least wire it up for stress and strain analysis, so we can tell Cat exactly what's happening and why! Then, I woke up...lol!
There's a reason for everything...
Some have no issues, some have issues. What's the common element...poor QC, but where exactly? Shaft's misaligned at assembly, I think as Cannondale suggested? Wish I could tear some down and get some accurate measurements. Or cut more firewood. Yeah, I'll go with firewood!!

Factory bushing are very hit and miss , some wobble on the shaft day one, others are border line and few are good. Put a bearing on that has play it won't last long. Install a proper fitted bushing with a high load capability it's going to last.

Dam! There goes my Yamaha grant money to find out what's wrong!

Oh well people waste money every day. If you want to go all out there's a guy selling a gear bushing combo for $350 USD I'm sure will last. Lol

Not sure what's funny ClutchMaster.

3000 miles at 280 hp last year heavily studded, same gear put into new sled this year running 330 hp heavily studded . Let's see when it starts to wobble

Same here @ similar power levels, 4000 miles on the stock bushing and it’s in great shape.
Guys with N/A vipers are wiping out the bushings in under 2000 miles.
IMO it has very little to do with the stock bushing. Will a better bushing last longer? Absolutely!

What bushing are you running?

Nah....I think mines good. I do. I think mines ok. I hope mines ok. Lol!!
I know for a fact the Apex chaincase is good...lol.
