Viper Cross-Shaft shears...

Well after thousands of miles on same rr shaft I put in at beginning of this thread my rr shaft is also bent. Putting in BOP shaft. Sure seems to be better design. Can see Bend on each end.

All Viper Owners take a look at your front arm cross shaft on your rear skid. Especially if you are riding these sled super aggressively over heavy rutted trail trash. It looks like the shaft is shearing off right at the end of the bolt and the bushing support. It looks as if most of the damage is done to the shaft and the tunnel once it lets go.

The bolt and collar should not be the same length so the stress on the shaft is not in the same place... thats my take on it.

See the skid looks fine.

Im scratching my head at this issue as well. 9000km/5600mi on my chassis. I had the H frame go the brackets go at the upper idler and now this issue all at different times. Not sure if my shock froze up and when the weight transferred up in the trail chatter it sheared the cross shaft this time?? Next sled will definitely be upgraded to a RR/LE or just wait till Yamaha parts ways with the dated pro cross chassis. I think as Yamaha riders we all can agree we demand more.

I'll add this to my pre/post check list.

Have any of you had the hangers egg out at the rear upper idler? Mine went tried a weld with no success the smart move is to buy the bracket directly from Yamaha and drill out and re rivet. Make sure to use locktite***

no wonder Yamaha is going under, cant even get the torque specs right. so what is the proper toque for this cross shaft.
manual says 54nm or 10 ft lbs, well im pretty sure 10 ft lbs does not equal 54 nm. just snapped the bolt trying to torque to 54 ft lbs which was my own fault bu its like a task just to find these torque spec s and most are wrong in service manual as shown below unless im reading it wrong
