Yamaha Cutting Production for 2019

Yes it is good. And again I'm not talking about big price hikes on the same sled with BNG. They can't keep cramming product down the necks of these dealers who still have 2016 models.

It’s a cutthroat business especially with the winters we’ve all been facing lately...

It's a definite contrast to the Polaris strategy of "ram dozens of crates in every dealer's yard and hold them there for 4 years, with the dealer paying interest."

I say Yam is in it for the long run, but quality over quantity.

That’s the way it should be, quality over quantity...

I agree but that doesn’t look like Yamaha’s strategy at all. They could care less about quality it seems. Arctic Cat quality is a joke (where they are made). My 2015 Viper has had more issues than all of my previous yamaha snowmobiles combined. I would have to sadly say Polaris seems to have the least issues of any manufacturer. M2C

Cat quality is decent, it’s not yamaha that’s forsure. I put over 5000kms on my 16’ and only had to replace the primary clutch bushing...$50. And no issues on the 18’ yet...

Well guys yamaha engineers are still active in the sled department so i will say this once"BE PATIENT"...CALM DOWN
Exactly! It’s not like they just up and quit and walked out or something! Too many people expect the world from all manufacturers, it’s like this across the board...

Consider yourself lucky. I wouldn’t count all your blessings yet either. Every single ball bearing on these yamacats is Chinese, this last pre season I had the driveshaft bearings out and they were dry and getting rough. Chaincase issues are everywhere, clutch rollers are failing Primary and secondary and I have found loose bolts all over the place. So knock on wood when you speak because it ain’t over till you sell it!
Arctic Cat has had major issues with quality assembly for many years now, they are the worst in the industry.
5000km ain’t squat for clutch bushings, that’s like 3000 miles. Some guys ride that in half a season. I used to get that out of one belt!
Manufacturers see that people have become a “throw away society” raise your expectations, after all your paying twice as much for a snowmobile compared to 15 years ago.

We’ll sure, everything has gone up in the past 15yrs! Just the way it is...
I never changed the belt on my 16’
Bearings are cheap and should be inspected and/or greased or replaced as needed. Yeah it sucks theyre Chinese so you just have to do it that much sooner, but it is what it is. I have my sled torn apart now looking for loose stuff and problems. Haven’t found any yet. 1st and 2nd model years will always have bugs that need to be worked out for all manufacturers. I think you need to update your viper! Haha! I won’t be selling this viper for a long time, I love it! I regret selling my 16’...

It’s all good Coop, I’m used to doing a lot of maintenance sounds like you are too. Won’t be selling my Viper either, it’s still faster than a TD 270 race flashed winder and I’m running pump fuel, but my turbo is bigger so it breathes better. Check your spar bolts for tightness I had several loose ones. Also the upper gear bushing in the chaincase wears quickly. Drill the oil hole completely through the gear and bushing.
Cheers

Maintenance is key! Thanks for the tips! I will look out for those, Can I split the chaincase without separating the oil tank? I want to inspect and clean the chaincase but I only have 2000kms on the sled and just don’t want to have to do another oil change...already did the initial breakin oil change.

Personally i find this a joke, only offer 2 engines in 1 chassis ( that you don't even build) and then severely limit the numbers to order only. Offer nothing that is under $15K ( except the kiddy machine which begs the question where does the kid go from the snow scoot things to? the one LTX viper offered -In one colour-one trim ?) Not everyone wants a $20K lake racer, or a "trail sled" that really does not show its sled till over the c note. Add on top of that you only offer that "trail/lake racer sled" in like 4 "models"-aka colour and track changes. Top it all off the company that actually builds your sleds offers all the same stuff CHEAPER! and has way more engines and options for you to choose!.
Now that my rant is over, how about this. Since they seem to think everyone that wants a yami is going to pony up and drop down good money to pre order a sled ( that they have not ridden) why not actually give the buyers one real options? Like- this chassis, these shocks, this track, these skis, this colour package ( from say 4 pre set up colour schemes), Offer a few engines, 2 strokes (600, 800 wish) 4 stroke turbo/na. Let the customer actually dictate what they want. If they had the engines already in place there is not really a reason they couldn't. Just my 2 cents.

But as it sits right now, Yamaha offers nothing for me to even trade to ( I'm a slower tight trail rider, i don't want 200hp ill never use) so disappointed in a company I've supported for 20 years.

You don’t have to split the oil case but you will need to pinch off the rubber oil line going to the bottom of the motor so you don’t loose your oil when you remove it.

All I can say from experience is just talking to mechanics and grease monkeys and seeing Poo sleds apart...not impressed. Rolling the dice on a Poo, from what I've seen, comes up with a LOT of maintenance hassle. No sled is maintenance free, but Yamaha overall has an edge on engineering and reliability IMHO.
