Congrats bud! Soon for Ryan , he will be happier also!

Saturday, 6/21/14 Hazy with a slight sprinkle, humidity through the roof and 75°. Traction was terrible/horrible for both the SRX and the Viper, but the good news is the Viper was more consistant and went to the semi-finals the 1st time out! Headwind also at 15mph.

The Viper was setup from the last time I had it on snow thinking the clutching would be real close...boy was I wrong! Even tho I was hitting the rev limiter all the way down, spinning with horrible 60ft's and dancing the sled to the 330ft. timer....it ran really consistant. Since I was only going to do a couple shake down runs, I didn't bring any clutching parts with me. But the best part is I have my 4 wheeler setup to haul the sled right up to the burnout box and pick me up at the end of the track. I ran 6 rounds and 3 time runs and never had to cool it down with a cool down cart. Water temp stayed about 150's average and saw a max of 174°. Not only that but it keeps the track cleaner than getting all the dust and dirt on it. Clutching, track tension and suspension adjustments and I will be ready for july 11th :)

1st time run Viper, lane 2
Reaction .1166, 60ft. 1.6007, 1/8 mile 7.2117@90.64mph, 1/4 mile 11.7231@104.43mph

2nd time run Viper, Lane 1
Reaction -.0466, 60ft 1.6769, 1/8 mile 7.2953@92.55mph, 1/4 mile 11.7731@104.79mph

3rd time run Viper, lane 1
Reaction .1272, 60ft 1.6605, 1/8 mile 7.2442@92.91mph, 1/4 mile 11.7180@104.55mph

Coors Light Nostalgia Nationals
1st round, lane 2, dial in 11.70 (Redlighted -.0455) Track was really going away and they wanted to call it but needed to get this one event in.
Reaction -.0455, 60ft. 1.6851, 1/8 mile 7.3115@91.92mph, 1/4 mile 11.7968@100.30mph

2nd round bought back in, lane 2, dial in 11.75 (other guy redlighted so I ran it out the back door...WIN!!!)
Reaction .0943, 60ft. 1.6080, 1/8 mile 7.1863@91.93mph, 1/4 mile 11.6801@100.05mph

3rd round, lane 2, dial in 11.70 (other guy had a horrible light so I let off so I wouldn't break out...WIN!!!)
Reaction .0822, 60ft. 1.6996, 1/8 mile 7.3090@91.56mph, 1/4 mile 11.8433@98.95mph

4th round, lane 2, dial in 11.84 (track was really going away so I dialed slower. Other guy had a killer light against me but couldn't run the number he dialed, i backed off...WIN!!!)
Reaction .2215, 60ft. 1.7029, 1/8 mile 7.3250@91.75mph, 1/4 mile 11.8881@93.84mph

(Now, round 3 and 4 had identical 1000ft. times of 9.6979....Haven't been reporting these but just thought I would mention it)

5th round, lane 2, dial in 11.85 (dew on the track, they were all talking about shutting it down. Even tho the funny cars quit running, we raced on. Other guy redlighted so I ran it out the back door spinning....WIN!!!)
Reaction .0424, 60ft. 1.7722, 1/8 mile 7.4205@91.75mph, 1/4 mile 11.9172@101.15mph

Semi-finals!
6th round, lane 2, dial in 11.91 (couldn't keep my visor clean, seat was wet, sled was wet and the track horrible. Both of us broke out, me by .0051 more than the other guy.)
Reaction .0397, 60ft. 1.7509, 1/8 mile 7.3684@92.11mph, 1/4 mile 11.8598@103.94mph
Was a great race!!!!

Terry
sled looks great. Nice job racing even with bad tack. I have been rained out 2 weekends now and last weekend my son got married. Next time is july 4&5

Dan

Ok, Been off for a couple weeks and did some changes to the sled. I took out the larger wheels that are in the center of the rear suspension and replaced it with a Wahl Brothers axle with 4 smaller wheels. I'm so glad I stuck with the stock suspension as now I have 3 full sets of small wheels (4 per axle), 2 smaller wheels toward the front to keep the track from rubbing the rails. I only had to drill 2 holes toward the rear of the suspension, everything else bolted right up :)

I'm throwing weight at this sled now for clutching and you wouldn't believe the black stripes on my road! Any guesses on how fast it's going to be? I ran 11.68 for a best time so far....hitting the rev limiter most of the way down and spinning past the 60 ft. timer. No more rev limiter issues and think the spinning problem has been majorly improved!

Gonna be a fun time at the track this weekend starting tonight with Real Street Drags :)

Have you cut your primary clutch for full shift,as i understand it,allen Ulmner has a set up that requires this and the secondary worked over for full shift, maybe this is why these sleds in general run low top end in the field,if they are only shifted to say 3/4 for top like allen saids, this could be alot left on the table. Keep her trucking down that fast lane, sounds like you are headed in the right direction.

Snowbeast, I have not had them cut yet as I wanted to get a consistant setup running before I do it to see what kind of improvement affect it will have.

Thanks bud!

Friday RSD, Saturday Races and Sunday Doc's Harley bike races! This was a great weekend, lots of clutching testing, a radiator deflector test and just trying to make it a consistant bracket racer. You guys are not going to believe how consistant this sled is! Great seeing everyone again!!! :) Had a blast!!!

Friday night, Real Street Drags 7/11/14 temp in the 80's, very humid. Tried to add weight to the clutch weights and no matter what, it didn't really like it. ALso, didn't like a lot of helix either.

Lane 2, Green secondary spring, 47 straight helix, added some weight in the heel of the clutch weights.
Reaction time .0647, 1.5751 60 ft., 11.8166 1/4 mile @ 103.21mph

Lane 1, White Secondary spring 60%, 45/39 helix, same weight profile.
Reaction time .1141, 1.5983 60 ft., 11.7202 1/4 mile @ 105.26mph

Lane 2, White Secondary spring 70%, 45/39 helix, removed heel weight and added 2.7 in middle of weight.
Reaction time .0858, 1.5775 60 ft., 11.7578 1/4 mile @ 98.93mph (hit rev limiter at end)

Lane 1, White secondary set at 60% (only change)
Reaction time .1316, 1.6388 60 ft., 11.7281 1/4 mile @ 106.27mph

Now we are getting back to my original setup....

Lane 2, Minus 2mm shim in primary, otherwise same setup as last.
Reaction time .1320, 1.6033 60 ft., 11.6656 1/4 mile @ 100.93mph (don't know why the mph was slow....???)

Lane 2, took out 2.7 gram out of middle and replaced 3 gram rivot with 4.5 in tip, no shims in primary, GWG primary spring with 45/39 helix, white spring set at 60%
Reaction time .0128, 1.5433 60 ft., 11.5795 1/4 mile @ 104.92mph :)

There were more runs that night but think the slips blew away :(

Saturday, 7/12/14 Summit Super Series. Headwind 20+mph, hot and couldn't stand without being wringing wet.

Lane 2, tried a 39 straight helix I didn't have Friday night (no performance at all)
Reaction time .0774, 1.6366 60 ft., 11.8308 1/4 mile @ 100.48mph

Lane 1, Back to 11.5795 setup from Friday
Reaction time .0361, 1.6089 60 ft., 11.5440 1/4 mile at 104.52mph (mucho better)

1st round, Lane 1 (lost because I redlighted)
Reaction time -.0074, 1.5672 60 ft., 11.5968 1/4 mile @ 104.04mph

Rain was coming so I left the track

Sunday, 7/13/14 - Doc's Harley Davidson motorcycle races (low 80's, sunny and very windy once again)

Some practice runs, qualifying and then eliminations
Right off the trailer
Lane 1, same setup
Reaction time -.0004, 1.5778 60 ft., 11.5781 1/4 mile @ 103.35mph

Lane 1,
Reaction time .1416, 1.5840 60 ft., 11.5675 1/4 mile @ 106.25mph

Lane 2,
Reaction time .0344, 1.5322 60 ft., 11.5498 1/4 mile @ 101.84mph

Time run 1, Lane 2
Reaction time .1251, 1.5815 60 ft., 11.5654 1/4 mile @ 106.13mph

Time run 2, Lane 1
Reaction time .0800, 1.5790 60 ft., 11.5547 1/4 mile @ 106.03mph

1st round, Lane 1 Dial-in 11.55
Reaction time .0381, 1.6177 60 ft., 11.5726 1/4 mile @ 105.77mph (winner!!)

2nd round, Lane 1 Dial-in 11.57
Reaction time .0495, 1.6540 60 ft., 11.6195 1/4 mile @ 106.75mph (winner!!)

3rd round, Lane 2 Dial-in 11.61
Reaction time .0036, 1.6214 60 ft., 11.6123 1/4 mile @ 106.45mph (winner!!)

4th round, Lane 2 Dial-in 11.61 (1 round before semi-finals)
Reaction time -.0163, 1.6224 60 ft., 11.6697 1/4 mile @ 105.64mph (redlighted, but made money. Track was also getting greasy, they weren't spraying at all so traction was a problem)

Can't wait to get to the track for more testing :)

Terry it was for shure fun, even running almost 50mph slower then I normally run,lol
I got my bike parts ordered this week so should be up and running soon.
It was cool that Tom had his family reunion there too!

Your welcome, sounds like you are going in the right direction on the asphalt, good luck bro!!

Thanks! Racing this weekend, trying out a silver secondary spring with the current setup. Seems to shift up faster ;) Hoping for 11:30's! Saturday will be doing the exhaust swap to see how much the can improved on performance.

Next Real Street Drags Friday August 1st will be more and more and even more testing. That viper will be like "What are you guys doing to me?" Found some crazy weight profiles to try. Steep helix start and then real shallow with a lot of tip weight.
