Barn of Parts Driveshaft Saver....Bearing Lock

That was exactly my comment when he said 3 grand. I was like, isn't the shaft only 500 bucks. I guess the rest is labour, yikes. He was like, well its 525.00 and.... ya, alot of labor.... I knew he couldn't see my obvious eye roll threw the phone. I know I just bought this snot rocket and soon I will be put of warrantee and happy to do season prep maintenance as I enjoyed completing on my apex which never let me done. But you'd think they would be happy to work on this thing and just bill yamaha Canada. He sure seems like the type that believes its coming out of his pocket.. frustrating that ill have this in the back of my mind all summer until October arrives....

You always have the option of the repair mentioned in thread #819 but you ship him your lower shaft for a fraction of the expense you mentioned

Just pulled my bearing on my 19srx, was planning on swapping in a nice new Niachi Japan bearing in there along with a ds saver. The one I took out was a factory "peer", spun freely and lots of grease inside... shaft is toast, chewed and sloppy. Called my sudbury dealer and they wont touch sleds until October under my yes warranty.

Anyone get a service manager who is full of excuses? This guy was, well I cant say it will be covered by us... we have to check the bearing and the shaft, it sees alot of heat and if it dried out then that's a Lack of maintenance issue and could be around a 3,000 dollar job... oh and there will be some cost cause we dont pay for the seals and the oil that we replace when we drain the chaincase and remove the shaft... hmmm. Oddly enough , a cat friend at out local cat dealer, same scenario was answered with..... yup, if u have wear, bring it in and we will swap it out. Happens all the time, zero cost to the customer..... wth?.
3000$ lol thats a little steep!!!
I swap them out for around 1600 1700$ that includes oil, new bearings, , bdx shaft, locking the bearing, cleaning chaincase ,changing top gear bushing and tacking adjuster

BDX shaft?? Marc how many have you done of these and what are your thoughts compared to a stock shaft? Thanks

Ya, I'll be coming to see you Yamamarc. A cat friend mark also just picked up a shaft and drivers from you, we now have another cat that likey needs a shaft also but hes under waranttee for 2 more years, hes the one where cat said... no problem. Mid north is the one basically using scare tactics so far. I have no issues doing the work myself and sourcing a shaft, but then what good is my guarantee? Lol
Parts folk there know me well. I fairly fussy some would say, Haha, and enjoy wrenching on my 12 apex and vector so I have not had much interaction with service dept.

Worst part is having to wait. I wanted to install all my rov delete , cai /wai, tacking the adj and top gear swap, clutch work and then come see ga for a flash. But that'll have to wait until they are doing sleds again and get to peek inside. He said call back at the end of Sept. ...

Just wondering for anyone reading this post, has anyone been denied a shaft replacement?..
P.s . Sorry to hijack the bop ds saver post but it's just also closely related...

Ny Turbo recommended I try them since he has been having great luck with them.
I started using them last fall and installed them on 6 sleds last fall. The tolerances are tighter. Bearing still slides on but it's not sloppy like I've seen with new oem shafts. I still drill 4 divets on the shaft bearing seat and add retaining compound to be sure.
This summer 4 of the sleds i did the shaft swap are scheduled to come back for maintenance so ill see how they held up. I don't expect to have any spun bearings since they all slide on snug
If you go with a bdx shaft don't get the aluminum one make sure it's steel!!!

If you are under warranty try blind river boat works in blind river.. they had no issue replacing a worn shaft on a 1 sled I did maintenance on that was still under warranty..
I can talk the trailside sport and see if they will help you out.. I know them well since I buy all oem stuff from Kevin..

Once you guys correct the few oem issues. You will have reliable muscle sleds!!
The only issue is when you get a dealer to do the repair(swap shaft ...) they don't take the time to address the top gear bushing, chain tensionner and lock the driveshaft. Most of them just slap everthing together and send you on your way!!

If you get the dealer to do the work get ahead of the game and buy a dmc gear, and a chain tensionner and tack the screws. Ask the dealer to swap the part while in the chaincase..imo

Thanks for info. Looks like BDX is selling the same shaft on their site..

Update - just pulled my bearing off the shaft. 3 seasons and only 8300 km.
Have had the wedge since about half way in its first season.
Definitely a ledge has been created on the shaft indicating the bearing is spinning.
Had the wedge up to 55 ft lbs but it still seems to be spinning.

When i removed it, i had left the wedge in and removed the 3 10mm bolts to see if the caliper would fall off bearing. And i could just pull it off. No resistance.

So pissed right now.
MS

Did you have any brown dust on tunnel, brake rotor cover, etc indicating that the shaft was still spinning? I don’t want to really take mine apart to check. I know I had a lot of brown dust before which is what made me check mine the first time. Not really seeing any this time except a little at rotor but that could just be from wiggle of rotor. Just black belt dust mainly.

Does my driveshaft saver fit inside the bdx shaft?

I currently have a sled in for some service work that had a driveshaft od worn down .022. I got some .010 shim stock and wrapped a piece around shaft and inserted it between the shaft and bearing. I then proceeded to install a drive shaft saver. Was able to lock everything down at around 90ft lbs. I had a customer use this same repair approach with good luck as well and just figured I would share.

Unless you have hardened those jaws since I have had you proto types, it will be damaged. Have you made a change?
