Blown Belt

I had a button secondary on for a little bit for testing....Wanted to see if any different helix angles worked better. Not a lot of miles tho to really test.

Going to throw on old clutches and do some testing next time up north.

For me, The belt looks like it went in toward engine by the striped marks on the aluminum on the engine. ****Notice there is no belt mark on the primary (My marker mark is totally eliminated also)

You have been machining for overdrive? Looks like you found your limit if that belt jumped?

Running the 8dn Yamaha belt now.. Mine is coming up decent but still short.. Need some more WFO runs.

Well.....I blew another belt on Wed this being my second one at 767 miles and they both blew while getting on and off the gas (8JP). I installed my spare 8DN and I quickly noticed that the clutch would need re-calibrating as the machine felt more sluggish. As on now this Winder is worse on belts then my Cat's of the past (except 2012 crazy belt eater) have been having all equal power give or take a few hp. I hope some are having better luck then I am because this is crazy.

The faces were very hot and what was left of the belt was also hot. I've got a STM Sec to test out as well but the two helix's I have are way off the mark so I am awaiting for another one to test. I just find it so strange that I never seem to escape the belt demons and that they always seem to find me lol. Yes I drive hard but I not a throttle stabber all the time and I do give the belt some time too cool off after a few pulls and on off gas sessions

8dn with 38 straight is very good on my sled.(1000 miles on a 8jp with 38 helix also). Clutches are VERY clean and run cool. 1500 miles now...
I believe the on off gas thing is real and also how I blew two belts myself..
IMO its the belt getting hung or whipped/jerked and the clutches not responding (opening or closing) fast enough and the belt gets grabbed BANG. Also spring bind in BOTH clutch springs is a very good culprit with belt blowing on these winders

Well, after checking clutches on stock RTX 3 rollers flat spotted. Replaced and off I go. Only 600 mi.es on last 8jp belt. Clutches were sipping and filthy.

1029 Miles on the original belt. Clutches were warm but I could easily touch them. They look pretty clean and from what I could see, rollers look good. I was on a long straight, cruising 85-90 and it snapped. No mods to the sled excepting swapping the track to a pre-studded 1.22 Ice Attack XL.

That's actually pretty good for a stock 8jp belt IMO.. Especially if you run your sled hard.. I would expect the 8dn to last twice longer then 8jp..

What is the offset measuring at for the guys who are blowing belts? Mine was right at the very low end of the spec, and my fixed sheave was pretty dirty. Shimmed it out to 60mm and things look better today.

Most including myself are trying to get close to 61 . I did not have a 1mm washer on my sled from dealer.. I put one in and it just under 61. I know my sheaves were very dirty before I put shim in BUT that was also with a different belt (not stock)

Try to get it to 61mm.

How are you measuring the 61mm with the secondary floating? Secondary pushed all the way in, or pulled out?

Its in the manual and was posted on here.. Its from the back side of inner primary sheave to outside edge of secondary sheave.. hard to believe that no aftermarket guys have not made a tool for measuring this.. I made my own from a old Cat offset tool
